       Dr. Sharron Abernethy has a concentration in Spanish peninsular  and Spanish American literature.  She holds a lifetime teaching certificate for Spanish and history and has been teaching since 1966.  Dr. Abernethy has owned two companies and has a special interest in Spanish as it applies to the world of business.

     She recently earned certification in Business Spanish (1999) from ESADE Escuela de Idiomas in conjunction with the Instituto Cervantes, Barcelona, Spain, and certification in Specialization for Professors of Business Spanish (2000), Universidad Carlos III, Madrid, Spain.  She became a full-time professor at UAH in 1996 and teaches all basic levels of Spanish language classes as well as Spanish for Business and Professions and Spanish Business Practicum.

     Winner of the teaching award in our language department in 1999, Dr. Abernethy has been awarded eight grants since 1999.  Her hobbies include golf, piano, and travel.  In addition to living in Mexico and enjoying extensive stays in Spain, she has traveled in eleven other countries.

     She is a recent winner of the UAH Foundation Award for Distinguished Teaching.
