Welcome from the Chair Dear Colleagues, Students, Alumni and Friends,
The Department of Education has shown a commitment to the preparation of highly qualified teachers for more than 50 years. The role of education continues to change as we prepare students to serve as leaders and professionals in our dynamic, global society. Guided by our mission and vision, we value outstanding teaching and are dedicated to offering nationally accredited programs. Faculty are exemplary teachers who care about our students, model "best practices," and are engaged in research and scholarly work. We continue to provide strong leadership and professional development for area school systems through statewide and national reform initiatives in reading, mathematics, science, and technology. Our students excel both academically and professionally. They meet high performance standards and develop professional dispositions established by state and national organizations and articulated in our Conceptual Framework. Evidence of student success is all around us—graduates of our programs are highly sought after and have established records of outstanding achievement in the classroom. We are proud of our role in preparing the next generation of educators.
