Dr. Gay Barnes
Dr. Gay Barnes, elementary education graduate of the UAHuntsville Department of Education, is the 2011 Alabama Teacher of the Year. She will now compete with other state teachers of the year for the national award. Dr. Barnes teaches at Horizon Elementary School in the Madison City School System.

Jeremy Raper
Jeremy Raper, physics education graduate from UAHuntsville, was named Alabama's sole recipient of the 2011 Milken Educator Award. In addition to the recognition, Jeremy received a monetary award of $25,000. Jeremy teaches engineering at Bob Jones High School in the Madison City School System.
Jeremy is the third UAH Education graduate to receive the Milken award. Ernie Meineke, a political science major received the award in 1999. Mr. Meineke is a retired teacher from Lee High School in the Huntsville City System. Dr. Matt Dean, received the award in 2001. He is currently chair of the Biology department at Buckhorn High School in the Madison County system and serves as an adjunt teacher in the Department of Education at UAHuntsville.
