VITA
Dr. Piersma received her doctorate in Education Curriculum and Instruction with a minor in Reading from the University of South Dakota. She also received her M.A. in Elementary Education from the University of South Dakota and a B.A. from Dordt College with a major in Elementary Education and a double minor in English and German. Dr. Piersma teaches two courses in reading for presevice elementary education majors, the Introduction to Education course and the Senior Seminar for Student Teachers. Occasionally she supervises also student teachers. Dr. Piersma is the faculty advisor for undergraduate music and art candidates and all graduate candidates. Dr. Piersma’s professional memberships include the International Reading Association (IRA), the Alabama Reading Association, the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education (AACTE), and Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD).
When she is not teaching courses or advising students, Dr. Piersma enjoys talking and interacting with students. On a more personal level, Dr. Piersma enjoys reading, cooking and traveling with her family.
