Alabama Prospective Teacher Test: Basic Skills Assessments All students who apply to the Alabama Department of Education, Teacher Education and Certification Office, for Alabama professional educator certificates must meet the requirements for the Alabama Prospective Teacher Testing Program (APTTP) as a precondition for certification.

Which tests do I take?
  • Students must take three tests: Reading for Understanding; Mathematics; and Writing.
When do I take the Basic Skills Test?
  • UAH Candidates undergraduate and nontraditional fifth year graduate candidates must take the APTTP - Basic Skills Assessments during Block 1 of their program.

How much will it cost?
  • Cost: $90.00
Where do I send my scores?
  • Alabama State Department of Education - Scores are automatically sent to the ALSDE
  • UAH – Scores sent to UAH only if you list UAH on the application form
  • PHOTO COPIES OF SCORE REPORTS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
Where can I take the test?
The APTTP Basic Skills Assessments are administered at the following test centers:
  • Alabama A & M University, Huntsville, Alabama
  • Alabama State University, Montgomery, Alabama
  • Athens State University, Athens, Alabama
  • Auburn University, Auburn, Alabama
  • Faulkner University, Montgomery, Alabama
  • Jacksonville State University, Jacksonville, Alabama
  • Oakwood College, Huntsville, Alabama (Friday test administrations only for examinees whose religious convictions prohibit testing on Saturday)
  • Troy University, Troy, Alabama
  • The University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, Alabama
  • The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Birmingham, Alabama
  • University of South Alabama, Mobile, Alabama
Every effort will be made to assign examinees to the desired test center but test center choices cannot be guaranteed. If the desired test center is closed or filled, the examinee will be assigned to the nearest open center. Assignment will be made with an attempt to minimize inconvenience to the examinee. Registrants are advised to submit materials early.
