The UAH Department of Art and Art History offers a BA with a concentration in studio art or art history.
Our studio faculty teach a wide range of techniques and media in the areas of drawing, graphic design, painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture. Individual attention, studio space, and after-hours access to most studio space and equipment are among the strengths of the Department.
The studio concentration allows a student to specialize in either painting/drawing, graphic design, printmaking, or sculpture.
Our studio facilities include a well-equipped computer graphics lab; a sculpture studio with facilities for woodworking, welding, fabricating and metal working, modeling and mold-making, wood and stone carving, and a bronze foundry; a printmaking studio setup for lithographic, intaglio, and screenprinting processes; darkrooms; and large and spacious painting and drawing studios with individual studio spaces for advanced painting students.
Scholarships, Awards, Recognition
The Department, the University, and private benefactors offer a number of scholarships for incoming and continuing students.
The Bromberg Scholarship in Fine Arts is awarded to an outstanding student majoring in Fine Arts. The Shelbie King Scholarship, available to both Art and Art History majors, is given to students who graduated from an AL. high school and is based on financial need and academic merit. Additionally, there are numerous opportunities to exhibit student work that include competitions for scholarships and cash prizes. The Evans Best of Show Award, a cash award, and the Jeffrey Bayer Memorial Scholarship are chosen by the art faculty based on the quality of artwork juried into the annual Student Art Exhibition. Additional scholarship awards are provided to entering freshmen who meet a qualified ACT score requirement. Transfer students are eligible for other scholarship awards.
