Jeremiah Misfeldt (1995) He received a Master of Fine Arts from the Tyler School of Art at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. He is currently pursuing a career in fine arts as a sculptor and installation artist. 

Ann Howard (1996) She received a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign. She is currently an instructor of Art Foundations and Painting at the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign.

Susan Clanton (2000) She is a full-time art instructor at Lee High School. 

Lynn Christensen (1998) She is a designer and Web designer for Teledyne Brown. 

Daryl Martin (1998) He is an Art Director for the Huntsville Times. 

Anne Coleman (1997) She received a Master of Arts degree in Library Studies from University of Alabama. She is currently the reference archive specialist and art subject specialist at the Louis Salmon Library at the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

Communications

Holly Woodall (2000) is Publications Editor for SCI Systems, Inc. in Huntsville. She is responsible for writing, editing, and designing the company's monthly magazine, which is circulated to 31,000 employees in 37 plants in 19 countries. She also maintains an online magazine and handles occasional special projects. 

Amy Duggar (2000) is Program Director for Government Affairs for Huntsville's Chamber of Commerce. She spends her days hosting events that promote good relations between businesses and city, state, and national governments. 

Matt Cuthbert (2000), Justin Thurman (2000), Stephanie Sanders Bateman (1998), and Brian McAlister (1998) have pursued careers in Web-based journalism at Alabama Live as news, sports, entertainment, and technical producers. Their careers include collecting, editing, and publishing stories for Alabama's leading online newspaper. 

Alicia Tyson (1999) holds a fellowship in the Master of Arts program in Mass Communication and Journalism at the University of Colorado at Boulder. 

Amy Mann Cotton (1998) is Development Coordinator for the National Children's Advocacy Center. Her position involves public relations work, strategic planning, event coordination, grant writing, and fund raising. 

Michael Napier (1997) served as Sports Producer for two years for the online newspaper Alabama Live before accepting a position as Wire Editor for Total Sports, Inc. in Raleigh, North Carolina. Total Sports, Inc is a national online sports news source whose clients include America Online, the Los Angeles Times, MSNBC.com, and others. 

James Ezzell (1996) earned a law degree from the Mississippi College of Law following his graduation from UAH in Communications. He passed the bar exam on his first try, and is now an associate at Auffenorde & Auffenorde in Huntsville. He handles cases in disability, workman's compensation, and other areas of civil law. 

Mary Beth DeFour (1996) has had a number of professional communication positions in Huntsville. She began as a technical writer at Wyle Laboratories, moved to Intergraph as a Marketing and Public Relations Copy Writer, and now serves as the Assistant Development Director for the U.S. Space & Rocket Center. In addition to her regular work on fund-raising, grant research, and grant writing in support of the museum and its educational programs, Beth does free-lance script-writing for corporate informational videos. 

Newman Burst (1995) has worked as a Staffing Coordinator for Daniel & Yeager in Huntsville since graduating. Her job includes recruiting doctors to work in client hospitals around the country.

Amy Westmoreland graduated from UAH with a Bachelor of Arts in French and English. She currently teaches at Scottsboro High School and is a recipient of the Alabama Power New Teacher Award.

English 

Janice Milner Lasseter (M. A. 1984) is Professor of English and former chair of the Department of English at Samford University. An established scholar of American Literature, Dr. Lasseter has served as President of the Alabama College English Teachers Association and in leadership roles in the South Atlantic Modern Language Association. Dr. Lasseter has been described as “a much-loved teacher and admired administrator.” She won the Distinguished Service Alumna Award from the College of Liberal Arts in 1999. 

Bonnie Roberts (M A. 1994), a distinguished teacher of creative writing at Lee High School, Huntsville's magnet school for the arts, has published numerous poems, including a collection entitled To Hide in the Light, which was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. Ms. Roberts has won awards to support study and writing abroad from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Fulbright program, and Poetry Ireland. 

Dr. Susan Luther (M. A. 1976) is a widely published poet and literary critic. Her most recent volume of poetry is entitled Breathing in the Dark: Poems. She is also the author of a book-length critical study of Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s Christabel. 

Dr. Daniel Kline (B. A. 1983, M. A. 1985) has been a tenured member of the English Department at Jefferson Community College in Louisville, Ky. He is now an assistant professor of English at the University of Alaska and is the author of numerous articles on medieval literature and culture. 

Tom McClellan (B. A. 1988), a successful playwright, assisted with the founding of Boston Playwrights’ Theater at Boston University. He has recently returned to Huntsville and founded McClellan Institute for the Dramatic Arts, where his most recent play, His Master’s Shadow, has been performed.

Dr. Deborah Barnhart (B. A. 1973) was the 1998 recipient of the UAH Alumni Association’s Outstanding Alumna Award. Dr. Barnhart is a U. S. Naval Reserve commanding officer, served five years as Director of U. S. Space Camp, and currently serves as Vice President of Business Development at Honeywell Space Systems. She was recently selected as a Sloan Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. 

C. W. Jones (M. A. 1993) completed his master’s degree in film production at American University. The film that he made for his thesis was recently shown at the Producers’ Guild, where it was chosen as one of the top ten student films of the year. When not making his own films, Mr. Jones has served as sound designer for several recent Hollywood films. 

Kay Campbell (M.A. 1993) writes news and feature stories at The Huntsville Times. 

Reva Bailey (B.A. 1968) recently retired after more than three decades of service to UAH, including many years as registrar. 

Kay Bradburn earned her M. A. from UAH. She has worked as a technical writer/editor in industry; taught composition; speech and professional development at area junior colleges; developed and taught courses for UAH Continuing Education; taught composition, Business Writing and Technical Writing at UAH; and has done freelance writing and editing for 35 years. 

John Brewer landed a technical writing job at Cybex in December of 1995 while still working on his bachelor's degree in English with a cognate in technical writing. In November 1997, he was promoted to Technical Publications Supervisor. He is now in charge of the manuals for their flagship products and also helps coordinate publications for their facility in Shannon, Ireland. He writes, "It's pretty exciting considering at this time two years ago I was selling house wares at the mall." 

Pat Newcomb (B.A. 1991, M. A. 1993) writes news and feature stories at The Huntsville Times. 

Brooke Burns (B.A. 1997), after graduating in 1997, turned her volunteer work for the English Department into a full-time job. While still a student, Brooke designed the English Department website. That led to a job as a Documentation Specialist in the Technical Marketing Department at NetSpace, which designs custom software. Then in spring 2000 she left NetSpace/Bentley to accept a job with ASRI, co-located at NASA (MSFC). Her position is webmaster, and she also manages the Web Editor position. She develops and maintains media-related news sites for Marshall, including the Marshall Center newsroom, the X-33 news site, and the Chandra Observatory news site. They are also developing a Space Station Science and Payload Operations site that will launch early in 2001. 

Thom Chumley (B.A. English with Technical Writing Cognate, then Graduate Certificate in Technical Communication, 1995) joined Sun Microsystems, Inc., in Mountain View, Ca, as a Technical Writer. In 1998, Thom moved from California to Sun's Colorado office. His latest promotion makes him program manager for Sun's first online service site, SunSolve

Shanna Gunn (B.A. English with Technical Writing cognate, 2000) landed the very first technical writing job she applied for, even before graduating with the cognate in technical writing. In spring 1999 she went to work writing software documentation for Book Systems in Huntsville, and then moved to Intergraph Corporation in spring 2000. At Intergraph she is the lead and only technical writer for one of Intergraph's most comprehensive and sophisticated software products. She works directly with developers and certifiers to create new documentation and keep current documentation up to date. 

Carolyn Life (B.A. English with Technical Writing cognate, 1993) works full time as a Senior Technical Writer at Intergraph, where she has been since graduating from UAH. She contributes feature articles regularly to The Valley Family, a local news magazine. She has had some freelance articles she published picked up by a Disney Online Services-sponsored website. 

Susie McIntosh (B.A. in English) returned to school and earned a Graduate Certificate in Technical Communication in 1996 . Because she had no computer experience, not even word processing, she started the program with the undergraduate technical writing course, where she wrote a public relations handbook for her children's school. Overcoming some technophobic tendencies, she first worked at a local computer company writing computer documentation and creating help files, one being in HTML. After serving a stint as the circulation manager for MicroStation Manager magazine, a publication of Bentley Systems Inc., Susie moved into a technical writing position at VMIC. Here she wrote computer documentation and Help files using FrameMaker and RoboHELP. Her latest position is with the marketing department at SIRSI, the library software company used by both UAH and the Huntsville Public Library. While writing a wide variety of marketing pieces for the company, she will have a chance to add Quark Xpress to her set of skills. 

Pam Minor (B.A., English with Technical Writing Cognate, 1999) went straight from her Adtran internship to a technical writing job with Message Media. Pam credits the FrameMaker experience she got on her internship for helping her get two job offers before graduation. 

Elizabeth Thames received her M.A. in English from UAH. She is now chair of the English department at Calhoun Community College and a regular columnist in The Huntsville Times. 

Sandy Spencer, after completing a Graduate Certificate in Technical Communications in 1993, became a medical editor for Educational Reviews in Birmingham. Her main tasks are split between content verification and style editing of monthly continuing education materials in various medical specialties. After working for 2 years in the company's main office, Sandy and her job have survived recent moves to New Jersey and California. She now telecommutes from her home office in Silicon Valley, using Fed Ex and the Internet to transport files between Birmingham and home. Sandy emphasizes that working from a home office offers great flexibility for personal schedules and requires a high degree of discipline to meet deadlines and to continue professional growth. Sandy currently uses the flexibility to volunteer as a nature interpreter and educational writer for Ano Nuevo State Park, where elephant seals migrate annually for their breeding and birthing season.

Foreign Language 

Kristina Eileen Fengl, a 1997 German minor graduate, is currently a customer consultant/trainer at SIRSI Corporation. 

Tammy B. Paltchikov, a 1993 Slavic Area Studies major, is currently an Assistant Director of the UAH Office of International Education and Research. She utilizes her foreign language degree while meeting and working with our many international visitors to Huntsville. 

Christoph Gibson graduated from UAH with a degree in German. He is working with Johnson & Johnson in Dallas, TX. 

Lynne Hall is a communications officer for the World Wildlife Fund in Washington, DC. Her knowledge of Spanish helps her to communicate with people from Spanish-speaking countries around the world. In her work, she has traveled to Bolivia and Mexico. 

Kristina Dutcher Homan graduated from UAH with a FLIT degree (Spanish) in May of 1998. She now works for a local business with international interests. She has used Spanish to translate ACT manufacturing legal documents and to communicate with the company office in Mexico. 

Gwen Yarborough is a May 2000 FLIT-French graduate of UAH. She is currently manages the Children’s Services Department at the Guntersville’s Public Library. She has also been accepted to the University of Alabama’s Master of Library Science program. 

Lesa Clough, a FLIT graduate, teaches Spanish at Bob Jones High School.

Nicole Hunt Canter (BA in History) completed the Graduate Certificate in Technical Communication in spring 1998 and the MA in English (with TESOL Certificate) in the spring of 1999. After completing her core courses in technical communication, she landed a job as a technical writer in the Information Technology department of a Huntsville software company, ADTRAN, where she produced the Information Technology department newsletter, Bits & PCs (both online and paper copy), and developed training documentation and Internet-based training for ADTRAN employees. In summer 1999, she moved to Dallas, TX and took a job as a Documentation Specialist at ObjectSpace, Inc. 

Claus Martel and Sharon Watkins work in the Army History Office at Redstone Arsenal. 

Mary Boucher, Jo Gartrell, Beth Shown, Staci Rigsby, David Gale, Penny Wood, and Edith Phillips are secondary school teachers. 

Ann Brady is a librarian at Randolph School. 

Susan Dils is in the Ph.D. program for Library Science at the University of Indiana. 

Marcia Tourtellot is in Sales at a Prescription Drug company. 

Val Seaquist is a Research Administrator at UAH. 

Cliff Stephan has a management position at Boeing.

Music 

Vivienne Atkins (1976) has been choral director at Lee High School for some 25 years, and is one of the most respected directors in the state. She directs the Lee Lyric Theatre and numerous community musical theatre productions. 

Ingrid von Spakovsky (1975) and Phil Weaver (1982) both are on the part-time faculty of the UAH Music Department, and form the guitar/piano husband/wife duo "Consonare." They have produced a compact disc and performed throughout the U.S. and England. 

John Miller (1983) is head of piano sales at AB Stephens Music Company, and an active jazz pianist in the region. 

Evelyn Loehrlein (1990) is principal flutist in the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra and director of the HSO Community Music School. 

Karen Callaway (1996) received the Master of Music degree from Northwestern University and is on the part time faculty of the UAH Music Department. She is an active singer in the region and is flutist for the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra. 

Carlos Costa (1996) received the Master of Music degree in piano performance from University of Toledo, and is currently a graduate teaching assistant and doctoral candidate at the University of Georgia. 

Duane Pickett (1996) received the Master of Music degree in Music Therapy at the University of Alabama. 

Ashley Byler (2000) graduated from UAH with a double major in Psychology and Music. She is currently teaching in Alaska. 

Christopher Donley (1998) is a choral director in the public schools of Augusta, Maine. 

Margaret Leach (1998) is a part-time faculty member in the UAH Music Department.

Philosophy 

Stephen Barnes (1996) received an M.A. in Philosophy at Texas A&M. He is currently completing Ph.D. in Philosophy at Southern Illinois University with full fellowship support. 

Curtis Bridgeman (1996) is nearing completion of a Ph.D. in Philosophy at Vanderbilt University. He will defend his dissertation in spring ’01. Curtis is also beginning work on a J.D. at the Vanderbilt Law School. He has been granted full fellowship support by Vanderbilt in his pursuit of both degrees. 

Mickey Gentle (1992) is a graduate of Jones School of Law. Mickey was admitted to the Alabama Bar in ’98 and is currently practicing law in Huntsville at 108-A South Side Square. 

Joseph Kallo (1995) completed a M.A. at Texas A&M with assistantship support. Joe is currently completing Ph.D. in Philosophy at Southern Illinois University also with assistantship support. 

Kimberly Leggett (1993) combined philosophy and studio art as an undergraduate and now works as independent graphic designer in Huntsville. 

Michael Linder (2000) was a double major in philosophy and history. Michael is studying law at the University of Alabama School of Law. 

Christos Maltezos (1998) was a double major in philosophy and biology. Chris is now a third-year dental student at Louisiana State University School of Dentistry. 

Philip Parker (2000) While making plans to pursue a Ph.D. in Art History, Phillip has accepted a position working in web design at UAH’s Information Technology and Systems Center.

Angela D. Whaley is a Senior Corporate Trainer for a major teleservices company and is a Madison County Court Mediator. 

Greg Casteel graduated from UAH with a B.A. in Political Science and a M.A. in Public Affairs. He has worked as a policy analyst in the defense industry and is currently a Ph.D candidate/Graduate research assistant at Vanderbilt University. 

Daniel Kaufmann is a Hugo L. Black Scholar and Federal Judicial Clerk to the Honorable Robert B. Propst. 

Jennifer L. McKown graduated from UAH with a B.A in Political Science and a M.A. in Public Affairs. She is pursuing a Law degree. 

David Mullins is currently pursuing a career in Law Enforcement. 

Karen Wilson Roberts is currently working for Phoenix Multimedia in Marketing. She graduated from UAH with a M.A. in Public Affairs. 

Elvira Ceci graduated from UAH with a B.A in Political Science and a M.A. in Public Affairs. She has worked as a policy analyst in the defense industry and is currently a Ph.D candidate/Graduate research assistant at Vanderbilt University. 

Tara Helms graduated from UAH with a BA in Political Science and an M.A. in Public Affairs. She completed her law degree at Cumberland School of Law and is a practicing attorney in Huntsville with Watson, Jimmerson, Givhan, and Martin. 

Glenn Glover graduated from UAH with an M.A. in Public Affairs. He completed a law degree at the University of Alabama School of Law and is a practicing attorney with Johnston, Barton, Procter, and Powell in Birmingham, AL. 

Shar Hendrick graduated with a M.A. in Public Affairs from UAH. He has served on the staff of U.S. Representative Glen Browder as a Legislative Assistant. He also served on the staff of U.S. Representative Bud Cramer as Legislative Director. He is currently the manager of the Government and Community Relations Department at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center.
