Frequently Asked Questions

Is this your first time at a Convention or LAN Party? Or perhaps the first time to attend ours?   Read the FAQ below for some answers to your questions.

What is ChargerCon?
ChargerCon Season III is the third semi-annual Gaming Convention held at UAHuntsville, presented by UAH Student Run eSports (SReS).  It will feature all of the same events from past UAH LAN Parties and ChargerCons, including an exhibitor area, workshop sessions, keynote speakers, special guests, a costume contest and much more.

What is a LAN Party?
Basically a big video game party.  LAN stands for Local Area Network, a component of large scale gaming.

Is registration required for ChargerCon?
Yes. Be sure to pre-register to show us what events you are interested in. Then, at the event, you’ll do a quick registration process to let us know you showed, and to register for prizes!

What does early registration get me at ChargerCon?
As an early registrant, you will have a slot in any tournaments you pre-register for.

Will registration be available at the door of ChargerCon?
Yes.  However, we will not be able to guarantee you a slot in a gaming tournament if you register the day of the event.

Is this event only for UAHuntsville students?
Everyone is welcome to attend ChargerCon.

What do I have to do to participate in a gaming tournament at ChargerCon?
There will be a general registration table opening at 5pm on Friday that comprises check-in, tournament registration, and networking registration all into one. Once registered here, you must be present and have paid for (if applicable) for your tournament 30 minutes prior to the designated start time to be eligible to compete. Pre-tournament walk ins on Saturday are acceptable, but do not guarantee a spot should the tournament fill up. Likewise, those who aren’t present or have not paid may be removed from the tournament bracket. Funds will be taken just prior to tournament start.

Will games be available for participants not participating in a tournament?
Yes!  There will be plenty of games (PC, console, and tabletop)  available for free play outside of tournaments. Please bring your own setups to guarantee the ability to play. As a matter of fact, power and networking will be provided for free in room 109.

Are other types of gaming welcome at ChargerCon?
Absolutely!  If you would like to bring any tabletop games or anything else, you are more than welcome.

Do I have to bring a PC, console, or any other games or equipment?
Not necessarily. If you want to play a PC game, you’ll need to bring your own laptop or desktop to play it on. There will be a small number of screens available to play on. If you want to bring any games, small televisions, consoles, or controllers, feel free to do so.

Will I be given a computer to compete in PC-based tournaments?
Unfortunately, all  competitors are required to furnish their own machine.

May non-students join the network?
Non-Students are now allowed to join our campus network. All you need to do is drop by the registration table with a valid ID to get your network access token. Everyone under the age of 19 needs to sign a release form.

Do I need to bring anything for console tournaments?
All equipment necessary to compete will be provided for console competitors. Although nothing is required, it is strongly recommended to bring your own controller.
