Assistant or Associate Professor of Information Systems

Requirements: THE UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA IN HUNTSVILLE: Assistant or Associate Professor of Information Systems, with a research and teaching specialization in information assurance and security. Position starts in August 2013. Candidates must hold or expect completion by Fall 2013 of a Ph.D. in an IS-related discipline. Candidates must have strong research skills. Professional experience and certification are pluses. The College of Business Administration offers a B.S.B.A. in IS, a Masters in IS, a joint Masters (with the Colleges of Engineering and Science) in Information Assurance and Security, and a graduate certificate in information assurance. UAH is a Carnegie very high research activity institution and is ranked by the NSF among the top 10 in the nation for federal funding of research in management and economics.

Visiting Assistant Professor in Economics

Application Deadline: Review of applications will begin immediately and will remain open until the position is filled.

Requirements: The Department of Economics, Accounting and Finance is seeking an intellectually curious economist to join our faculty and teach three courses per semester for the 2012-2013 academic year. Candidates must either have a doctoral degree in economics or be in the final stages of their doctoral program and have experience in the classroom. For the ABD candidate we will need evidence that a thesis proposal has been successfully defended. We encourage applications from women and minority candidates.

UAH offers the best of both worlds: an intellectually active and well-published faculty and bright, motivated students to teach (our in-coming freshmen have the highest ACT scores in the state).  Visiting Instructor or Visiting Assistant Professor in Management Science

Application Deadline: The position will remain open until filled.

Requirements: The University of Alabama in Huntsville (www.edu.uah) invites nominations and applications for a visiting faculty position in Management Science. The appointment will be for one academic year, starting at the beginning of the Fall 2012 term, at the level of visiting instructor or visiting assistant professor. The position is in the College of Business Administration, which is AACSB-accredited at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Applicants at the Assistant Visiting Professor level should be at least ABD. Previous professional experience and professional certification are desirable, but not required.

The responsibilities will include teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in statistics and management science as well as participating in the scholarly activities of the college.

Senior Supply Chain Management Faculty Position

Application Deadline: Preference will be given to candidates who apply by October 31, 2011, but the position will remain open until filled.

Requirements: The College of Business Administration at the University of Alabama in Huntsville invites nominations and applications for a senior level tenure-track faculty position in Supply Chain Management. The appointment would be either at the Associate or Full Professor level, depending on qualifications and experience. In addition to the faculty appointment and depending upon qualifications and experience, the person selected for the faculty position will also direct the Center for Management and Economic Research (CMER). The appointment will be effective at the beginning of fall semester 2012 or soon thereafter.

Applicants must have a doctoral degree in marketing, management science, operations management, information systems, or a related field. The candidate must have an excellent record of publishing high quality research, as well as evidence of building and managing industry relationships. Because much of the supply chain activity in the community involves Department of Defense contracts, candidates must be able to obtain and hold a U.S. security clearance. The preferred candidate will have experience working with both Department of Defense and industrial supply chain management issues.

Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in operations management and supply chain management, and publish in leading journals. Provide expertise and leadership to CMER efforts to develop strategies, techniques and competencies to help firms and government agencies manage the rapid changes, high risks and uncertainties that characterize high-technology industry. Secure funding through CMER for supply chain research that includes both faculty and students. Contribute to the service missions of the college and the discipline.

2 Lecturer positions in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering

Application Deadline: Review of applications will begin immediately

Requirements: The Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering at The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) invites applications for two (2) non-tenure-track faculty lecturer positions. The positions are for one full year starting in the fall semester of 2012 through the end of the summer semester of 2013. The successful candidate is expected to have a strong commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level and excellent communication skills. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering including Introduction to Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, Introduction to Computer Aided Engineering, Statics, Dynamics, Mechanics of Materials, Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics, and Numerical Methods.

Applicants must have a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (B.S.E.), or equivalent, in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution and have completed or will complete a Master of Science in Engineering (M.S.E.) in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering by the end of the fall semester 2012. Assistant/Associate Professor in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (Unmanned Aerial Systems)

Requirements: The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering in the College of Engineering at the University of Alabama in Huntsville invites applications for a faculty position in the area of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS). Applicants for positions at the rank of tenure-track Assistant Professor or tenured Associate Professor will be considered. Along with experience in UAS applications, the candidate should have teaching and research interests and experience in at least one of the following disciplines: aerodynamics, flight mechanics and controls, vehicle system design and analysis, flight operations including aviation safety and security.

Applicants should have an earned Ph.D. degree in Aerospace Engineering or an earned Ph.D. in a related field and preferably a BS degree in Aerospace Engineering. A successful applicant must evidence the ability to develop an externally funded research program, have a strong commitment to teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and have an interest in performing university and professional service. Assistant/Associate Professor in Civil and Environmental Engineering

Requirements: The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in the College of Engineering invites applications for a tenure/tenure-track faculty position in structural engineering with a preferred focus in the areas of structural health monitoring, structural dynamics, conceptual design of structural systems, expertise in composite materials, and familiarity with experimental techniques and equipment for structural evaluation and measurements. Strong candidates in other emerging areas will be considered. The position can be filled at either the assistant or associate professor level.

The Department offers BSE, MSE, and Ph.D. degree programs in Civil and Environmental Engineering. Current department research and teaching interests are in environmental, geotechnical, structural, and transportation engineering. The department is viewed as being very vibrant and dynamic, with significant research funding from the Alabama Department of Transportation, NASA, NSF, the Federal Highway Administration, the University Transportation Center for Alabama, and NOAA. These and other agencies and organizations in Huntsville offer excellent opportunities for collaborative research.

The College of Engineering is the largest of five academic colleges in terms of student enrollment and currently has a research focus that addresses three National Academy of Engineering (NAE) Grand Challenge problems. They are to secure cyberspace, restore and improve urban infrastructure, and engineer tools of scientific discovery. UAHuntsville is located in the midst of a high technology community consisting of Fortune 500 corporations, NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, and the Redstone Arsenal Army Base.

Associate Professor/Professor in Chemical and Materials Engineering

Requirements: The Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering in the College of Engineering at the University of Alabama in Huntsville invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position in the area of sustainable energy with emphasis in bio-related processes. The position is open to all ranks but ideally we seek to attract an established Associate or Full Professor in this dynamic area. A complementary search in the area of sustainable energy conservation and storage is also underway in the department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.

The Department offers both BSE and MSE, and Ph.D. degrees through Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Materials Science and Biotechnology programs. The Department currently has 6 tenured faculty members and 2 part time faculty members, 130 undergraduate and 20 graduate students. The current department faculty have extensive research experience in energy and energy related processes including genetic engineering, heterogeneous and homogeneous catalysis, reaction engineering, numerical analysis of chemical systems, surface modification and surface analysis, and many have fully equipped laboratories to support and encourage a recent or established hire.

Baba Budha Eminent Scholar Chair in Global Understanding

Requirements: The Department of Political Science in the College of Liberal Arts invites applications for the Baba Budha Eminent Scholar Chair in Global Understanding. This position is part of a broader strategic thrust by the University of Alabama in Huntsville to enhance global activities and partnerships and promote greater understanding of global issues by its students and in the broader community.

Candidates are expected to be at the mid-career to senior level and should have a focus in one or more of the following areas: Asian studies, Global Understanding, Effects of Globalization, Political Economy, Political Systems, and Policy Implications and should have specific expertise in Indian studies. The candidate will be expected to create and teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses and seminars for students across the campus.

The selected individual also will be expected to interact with a counterpart at a university in India and serve as a focal point for interaction for the university and broader community. The Eminent Scholar will work closely with the Department Chair, Academic Deans, and Provost in enabling the University’s growth and stature in this area.

The College of Nursing offers BSN, MSN and DNP programs which are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The College enrolls 750 baccalaureate students, 170 master’s and post-master’s students (Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, Adult Clinical Nursing Specialist, Family Nurse Practitioner, Nursing Leadership, and Clinical Nurse Leader Tracks), and 50 Doctor of Nursing Practice students.
