Job Fair

<< Student Home

The UAH Office of Career Services holds on-campus job fairs for students and employers twice a year in October and March. In addition, the office co-hosts a special off-campus job fair in February with Alabama A&M University, Athens State University, Oakwood University, and the University of North Alabama. Please check our calendar periodically for upcoming job fair dates

Prior to each job fair, the office emails registered candidates a series of job fair tips and guidelines to prepare them for having a productive day at the event. Some general statistics on career fairs show that up to 49% of well prepared candidates can receive interviews from participating and that 65% of those candidates receive job offers(This process may take three or more months).

"I've been to these in the past and felt blown off. But I took a different approach this time and researched companies, prepared an introduction, and took notes while I was wandering. It made a HUGE difference. Thanks OCS for sending out that sheet of helpful Job Fair tips. Continue to emphasize confidence and smiling."

General Guidelines While Attending A Job Fair

Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors:

  • Greet the representative with a smile, a firm hand shake, and introduce yourself.
  • State your major and ask what opportunities may exist within the organization for that major.
  • Ask what qualities, skills and experience the organization looks for in job candidates.
  • Ask if there are any undergraduate courses they would suggest taking to better prepare yourself to enter this field.
  • Ask if they offer summer employment, internships, or if they have a co-op program.
  • Ask about any advice they would give to a person who wanted to enter this line of work.

Seniors, Graduate Students, and Alumni:
  • Greet the representative with a smile, a firm handshake, and introduce yourself.
  • State your major and ask what opportunities may exist within the organization for that major.
  • Ask them about the duties and responsibilities of the positions that fit your major and interests.
  • Tell them a little about yourself and what you have to offer.
  • Offer them a copy of your resume and ask for a business card (you need the address for follow-up letters).
