The Functional Resume groups experience under
three or four headings such as Organizational Skills, Computer
Skills, Management, Design, Writing & Editing, Lab Skills,
Finance, or Sales. The headings you choose are based on what
skills and experiences you want the employer to know about.
Employment simply becomes dates, titles, and employer name
and location presented from most recent and going back. A
job description is not provided since any relevant skills
and experiences are grouped under the headings you chose.
You should also include any relevant projects and papers
you have done under the headings.
Begin with your name, address, phone number(s), and email
address (if you use your email at least every other day).
This should be in block form and preferably centered at the
top of the page.
Next you will typically have an objective. An objective
states the type of employment you are seeking. This could
include a few related positions or related areas of work.
This is the theme of your persuasive paper and helps you
to focus on what education, skills and experience to include
in your resume. You may wish to have a resume that does not
have an objective for situations such as job fairs.
Education is the next section in the vast majority of resumes.
