Chronological Resume
General | Education | Employment | Production | Example
A Chronological Resume is the most common format and generally
contains the above information followed by an Employment
or Experience section. In this section you will describe
the various jobs or volunteer activities you have had beginning
with the most recent and going back in time. You may also
have an Honors and Activities section that will also present
information from most recent and going back.
Functional Resume
General | Education | Skills
and Experience | Production | Example
A Functional Resume is very good for people right out of
school without much related employment or for people changing
careers and their prior employment does not fit their new
career direction. The Functional Resume groups experience
under three or four headings such as Organizational Skills,
Computer Skills, Management, Design, Writing and Editing,
Lab Skills, Finance, or Sales. The headings you choose
are based on what skills and experiences you want the employer
to know about. Employment simply becomes dates, titles,
and employer name and location presented from most recent
and going back. A job description is not provided since
any relevant skills and experiences are grouped under the
headings you chose. You should also include any relevant
projects and papers you have done under the headings.
