Learn and Practice Good Academic Skills.



  • Confirm your Career Plans

    • How is hiring in your field and where are most of the jobs
    • Talk with faculty and employers about employment outlook
    • Aside from your degree, what other qualifications are necessary in your field
    • Research additional educational or training requirements and opportunities they provide

    Research Types of Employment
    • Learn about typical company divisions such as: research and development production, accounting, marketing, management, etc.
    • Find which employment areas match your skills/interests
    • Read professional publications and identify trends and potential employers
    • Attend Job Fairs
    • Identify and use internet resources

    Research Graduate and Professional School Options
    • Determine relative benefits of an advanced or professional degree
    • Talk with faculty in your field of interest
    • Talk with representatives at the Graduate and Professional School Day
    • Evaluate and compare programs based on costs, location, quality of faculty,research,financial aid, prerequisites, and admission policies
    • Prepare for graduate and/or professional school entrance exams

    Academics
    • Maintain a solid academic record. A high GPA will gave a positive influence of your job search or grad school plans
    • Get to know the faculty in your major/field of studies
    • Choose electives compatible with your employment interests

    Develop Leadership Skills
    • Take on leadership roles in professional association, social clubs, etc.
    • Seek more responsibilities in your employment

    Continue Seeking Career Related Employment
    • Attend Career Fairs and inquire about career related part-time or summer employment
    • Seek on-campus work assignments that will build career related skills
    • Register with Career Services for off-campus employment related to your major
    • Follow-up with the Co-op Office about possible work assignments
    • Attend workshops on resume writing,interviewing, and conducting a job search.
