An advisor for a student organization plays a crucial role in the functioning and development of our students as well as our student organizations. Each student organization is required to have a faculty or staff advisor to help ensure the group’s success. We have over 180 student organizations and more are looking to form each week! What is the role of an advisor?

  • Maintain regular contact and involvement hours with officers and organization leadership. The exact time commitment is up to you and the student organization.
  • Be knowledgeable about the goals and purpose of the student organization.
  • Uphold UAH’s policies and procedures.
  • Assist the organization with financial affairs.
  • Provide resources and support for events and activities.
  • Give leadership guidance on goals and problem solving.
  • Serve as a liaison between the organization and the university administration.

Advisors take on different responsibilities depending on the needs of their organization. Monthly workshops and resources for advisors are provided through the Office of Student Life.

  • Sharing one’s knowledge and interest with a group of students.
  • Take part in meaningful interactions with students outside the classroom.
