The University of Alabama in Huntsville's (UAH) Women's and Gender Studies Program is hosting "Charged Up For Change! EXPO," on Wednesday, April 1, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., in the University Center.

EXPO provides a venue for networking and features local musicians, performance artists, refreshments, and door prizes. Admission is free and open to the public.

This is the third EXPO event. It was designed to encourage students and others who attend to see how they might get involved in community activities, or how they might use their own innovative talent as a platform to drive social change.

"EXPO is a tremendously positive event," said Dr. Molly Wilkinson Johnson, associate professor of History, and director of the UAH Women's and Gender Studies Program. "We can so easily become overwhelmed at the problems that exist not only in the world at large, but also right here in our community, and many students believe they do not have either the time or the experience necessary to help. At EXPO, by encountering a very broad and diverse range of community groups working on behalf of social change, students learn to think creatively about how to use their pre-existing passions and talents as paths to social engagement," Johnson added. "Ultimately, EXPO is a very empowering event for both the groups that exhibit and for the students and community members who attend."

EXPO will involve many exhibitors with a wide array of creative projects, hobbies, or actions that make a positive local or global impact, such as recycling programs and green energy; handcrafted products; athletic activism for a cause, local food, performance art, visual arts, health and wellness, animal care and advocacy; childcare; tutoring; grassroots collectives; established volunteer organizations, student clubs; alternative businesses; and more.

Individuals and groups interested in registering for booths can download forms and information from the event website at: www.uah.edu/expo or call 256.824.6190. Booth registration is due by Friday, March 6.

"Charged Up For Change! EXPO 2015," is co-sponsored by the UAH Office of Diversity, Office of Student Affairs, College of Liberal Arts, Global Studies Program, and Office of Multicultural Affairs.
