Crumbs from the Table of Joy

Crumbs is a memory play told through Ernestine, a seventeen year old, African-American young woman whose family is dealing with their own realities of change. After the death of his wife, a man named Godfrey Crump finds religion and decides to move his family to Brooklyn, New York City. It starts out with only him and his two daughters, Ernestine and Ermina, but they are quickly joined by Godfrey's wife's sister, Lily, who is a Communist, and Godfrey's new wife, Gerte, a German woman he met on the subway.
