Biography

Mary Beth Taylor has been singing, directing, and teaching music for over twenty years. She received her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Voice Performance at The University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, where she participated in master classes with internationally renowned baritone Sherill Milnes and the chamber group Tafelmusik. Prior to moving to New Hampshire in 2001, Dr. Taylor performed as a soloist throughout the Birmingham area with the Birmingham Choral Guild, Birmingham Opera, and Highlands United Methodist Church. She quickly became a highly sought-after performer in New England, appearing as a soloist with The Raylynmor Opera, Franklin Pierce University, The Monadnock Chorus, The Keene United Church of Christ, The Keene Chorale, and in the Wisteriahurst Museum Chamber Music Series.

Dr. Taylor's leading performance credits include The Yoemen of the Guard (Elsie), Iolanthe (Phyllis), Pirates of Penzance (Mabel), Love on Trial (Clarrisa), The Jealous Lover (Leonora), The Four-note Opera (The Soprano), A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (Philia), The Fantasticks (louisa), and My Fair Lady (Eliza Doolittle).

In addition to performing, Dr. Taylor has taught general music and chorus at the middle and high school levels in both New Hampshire and Alabama, and has music directed several school and community musicals including You're a Good Man Charlie Brown, Guys and Dolls, Annie Get Your Gun, Into the Woods, and Schoolhouse Rock! She has taught at The University of Alabama Community Music School, Birmingham-Southern College Conservatory, the Keene Institute of Music and Related Arts (KIMRA), Creative Arts at Keene (CAKE), the Pioneer Arts Center of Easthampton (P.A.C.E.), Franklin Pierce University, The University of Montevallo, and Alabama A&M University. She is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and American Choral Directors Association, and she has served as an adjudicator for several events in both New Hampshire and Alabama.
