Biography

Kevin Bounds has a BM in Music History and a BA in Trombone performance from Birmingham-Southern College. He received his MM in Orchestral Conducting from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and is currently ABD for the Doctor of Musical Arts in Orchestra Conducting with a cognate in music history from the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati where he also studied trombone under Tony Chipurn.

Kevin has studied conducting with Tonu Kalam, Christopher Zimmerman, Gerhard Samuel, and Mark Gibson. He has also attended conducting workshops under Kenneth Kiesler, Gustav Meier, Mike Votta, and Frederick Fennell. Kevin has attended the Aspen School of Music where he studied conducting under Murray Sidlin.

Kevin joined the faculty of UAH in 2002 and has conducted the UAH Wind Ensemble and taught music theory, ear-training, music history, conducting, music literature, and studio trombone. As a trombone player, Kevin periodically plays as a substitute with the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra as well as with local performing ensembles. Currently, he teaches Introduction to Music Literature and Music History.
