Professor of History410 Roberts Hall(256) 824-2568Gerberr@uah.edu Areas of Specialty Ancient Medieval Vita Professor Richard Gerberding received his BA from the University of Minnesota, his MA from the University of Manitoba, and his Ph.D from Oxford University. He teaches the department's courses in ancient, medieval, Renaissance, and Reformation history. He is also Professor of Latin and teaches courses in the Classical Studies Program. He serves as the University's Director of Classical Studies and as advisor to the Society For Ancient Languages. His research interests center on the early Middle Ages, specifically on Frankish history. This is a subject about which he has published books and articles, e.g., The Rise of the Carolingians and the Liber Historiae Francorum (Oxford University Press, 1987) and Later Merovingian France (Manchester University Press, 1997). He has also published a textbook for Houghton-Mifflin entitled Medieval Worlds (2003). Dr. Gerberding has built a house near Rogersville on the Elk River, a house known to his friends and students as "The Castle". Here he enjoys swimming, boating, and entertaining.
