All first-time freshmen attending UAH in the fall are invited to get a jump start on college by taking classes the summer prior to your first fall semester. This allows you a great opportunity to earn college credit, get familiar with campus, meet new friends, and get to know your UAH faculty and staff! By the end of your first fall semester after having participated in the Summer Incentive Program you will likely have earned more credit hours toward graduation than you may have been able to earn in just the fall semester alone. And, by spreading the course work over a summer term and fall semester you will be able to concentrate more on each course, maximize your performance to start off with, and ensure that your transition to college is a smooth one. The Summer Incentive Program may also provide substantial financial benefit as described below. To qualify for the Summer Incentive Program: You must be a first-year, first-time freshman. You must register for, pay tuition and fees for, and successfully complete at least one class during a summer term prior to your first fall of enrollment. You must register for, pay tuition and fees for, and maintain a full-time (12 or more credit hours) course load for your first fall semester. Register for the Summer Incentive Program Your tuition and fees for the fall semester are then recomputed as though the courses you completed in the summer are being taken in the fall. As a result, you may receive a refund as shown with the calculator computed for the campus rate tuition, i.e., all courses taken are campus rate courses. Refund Calculator Summer hours Fall hours Resident Resident? Summer Tuition Fall Tuition Total Tuition Refund (est.) If you take online courses in the summer, and campus rate courses in the fall, your tuition for the summer and fall will be recomputed based on the campus rate tuition, which will be done on an individual basis. The calculator shown does not apply. The amount you receive will be dependent on the number of hours you take in the summer and fall combined. If the recomputed fall tuition including all summer and fall courses is higher than what you paid in the summer and for the fall courses, there is not additional charge. Here's an example of how this works: You take a 3 credit hour course in the summer prior to your first fall semester and pay the summer tuition and fees up front. You enroll in 12 credit hours for your first fall semester and pay tuition and fees for those 12 hours. This results in a total of 15 credit hours for the summer and fall semesters combined. The cost of 15 credit hours is the same as 12 credit hours. So the tuition you paid for the 3 credit hour course in the summer is refunded to you. Another example is: You take two 3 credit hour courses in the summer prior to your first fall semester and pay the summer tuition and fees up front. You enroll in 15 credit hours for your first fall semester and pay tuition and fees for those 15 hours. This results in a total of 21 credit hours for the summer and fall semesters combined. The tuition cost of 21 hours is computed at the fall tuition rate, which is what you owe for the summer and fall combined. The result is that a portion of the tuition you paid for the two 3 credit hour courses in the summer is refunded to you as per the rate schedule. UAH is also offering a Residence Hall Incentive for freshmen participating in the Summer Incentive Program who want to live on campus for the summer prior to their first fall semester. You will pay the summer rent in full up front, and if you sign a housing contract for the academic year and live on campus in the fall, the amount you paid for the summer rental cost will be credited to your student account.
