International Checklist

Undergraduate International Applicant Checklist
The checklist below provides a list of the documents that an international applicant may be required to submit in order to be considered for admission to UAH. If you click on any of the numbered items below you will be provided with helpful details about that specific requirement.

If you are unsure whether you are required to submit any of the supporting documents listed below please refer to the Admissions Guide. The Admissions Guide will ask you five simple questions to help you determine the supporting requirements necessary for your specific case.
1. Undergraduate international application and submit the non-refundable $30 USD fee.

2. Certified copies of secondary school and university academic records including English translations if the certified copies are not written in English.

3. A credential evaluation can be obtained from one of the following approved services: World Education Services (WES), Joseph Silney & Associates, or Lisano International.

4. Standardized test score from the ACT or SAT score sent directly to UAH from the testing service headquarters.

5. Evidence of English language proficiency as indicated on the TOEFL or IELTS.

6. F or J student applicants must demonstrate access to sufficient funds for university expenses.

7. Copy of immigration documents.

1) Undergraduate International Applications are available in two forms.
a. Online (apply web)

b. Print (pdf)

2) Certified copies of academic records are defined as follows:
Original credentials or certified copies of academic records, diplomas, or certificates are those certified by an authorized official at the institution that issues them and must include the original signature of the authorized official and the institutional seal. Records must be sent directly from the institution(s) attended or from the accrediting agency to:

Personal copies of academic records will not be accepted. All English credits earned at international institutions will be evaluated by the English Department at UAH after an admission decision is made.

3) A credential evaluation can be obtained from one of the following approved services:
World Evaluation Services (WES), Joseph Silney & Associates or Lisano International Secondary level records require a document-by-document evaluation and college level records require a course-by-course evaluation.
UAH will use the credential evaluation to help us determine how many credits you have earned as well as how your courses transfer into the U.S. educational system. Personal copies of credential evaluations cannot be accepted.

4) Standardized Test Scores are accepted from:
College Board (ACT) and Educational Testing Services (SAT). To have ACT scores directly sent to the UAH admissions office use code 0053. To have SAT scores sent directly to the UAH admissions office use code 1854. Standardized test scores are not required of applicants who have earned 18 semester or more hours of college work OR applicants who graduated from high school more than five years ago.

5) English proficiency is requirement for both domestic and international applicants whose native language is not English.
UAH accepts both TOEFL and IELTS scores as evidence of English language proficiency. A minimum >TOEFL (code 1854) score of 500-paper based, 173-computer based score, 62- internet based score with minimum subsections of 13-Writing, 18-Speaking, 15-Reading and 16-Listening or IELTS. of 5.5 overall bandwidth with no less than a 5.0 on any module is required for undergraduate admission. Scores must be sent directly to UAH from the testing agency.

6) Financial documentation consists of the following:
Immigration laws require that students with F and J status demonstrate access to at least one year of finances that are sufficient to cover university and personal expenses. Students should submit original bank documents/statements that show access to the estimated cost of tuition and living expenses for one year of study at UAH. Students who have a financial sponsor, other than self, must also submit a signed and certified UAH affidavit of financial support form.

UAH estimated cost for F1 or J1 undergraduate student for academic year 2007-2008 The I-20 or DS-2019 issuance is based on 12 months estimated expenses
Tuition = $11,024
Two academic semesters at 15 hours per semester
Living Expenses Total (12 months) = $8,776
Living expenses: room & board, misc./ personal, transportation
Miscellaneous Expenses Total = $2,470
Miscellaneous expenses: books, insurance, international student fee
TOTAL = $22,270 (12 months)

7) Students not planning to study in F or J status are required to submit copies of documents indicating current immigration status.
If you plan to change to F or J student status please submit documentation of your current status and indicate your intent to change status.
