Transfer Applicant - Frequently Asked Questions

What are the deadlines for applying for admission, financial aid, scholarships, and housing?

While there is not a deadline for any of the above applications, UAH recommends the following as a rule of thumb:
  • Students interested in transferring for the fall semester should have their applications complete by August
  • Students interested in transferring for the spring semester should have their applications complete by December
  • Students interested in transferring for the summer session should have their applications complete by May
Do transfer students attend orientation?

While not mandatory, UAH strongly encourages transfer students to attend one of two COMPASS programs designed especially for them. The dates for the 2006 COMPASS program are July 11th and August 8th. During COMPASS, you will have the opportunity to meet with college representatives and receive important academic information about your major, learn more about student clubs and organizations, buy your textbooks, and get your student ID card.

What scholarships are available for transfer students?

First-time, regularly admitted transfer students who have earned transfer credits from an accredited institution of higher learning are considered for two scholarships especially for transfer students. For both awards, preference is given to students who have demonstrated academic potential, leadership, and are members of Phi Theta Kappa. The Merit Scholarship requires a cumulative college GPA of 3.5 or higher and is currently valued at $1,250 for one year. The Super Scholar Scholarship requires a cumulative college GPA of 3.95 or higher and is currently valued at $1,000 per year, up to two years.

How do I find information about transferring from an Alabama community college?

Start by visiting the STARS website for answers about equivalency coursework. If you would like additional information, contact the academic advisor associated with your college.

Is there a limit to the amount of two-year college course work I can transfer?

Yes. Students from two-year colleges may transfer a maximum of 64 semester hours.

When will I know which courses will transfer to UAH?

Your transcript will be sent to your academic advisor when you are admitted. An official evaluation of credits will be mailed to you by the registrar within your first semester at UAH.

What type of career planning services are available at UAH?

The Office of Career Services provides career counseling, assessment inventories, resume writing and critiques, on-campus interviews, and many more services. The Office of Career Services encourages students to contact them early and beginning planning upon their arrival to campus.

Does UAH offer Co-op opportunities?

Yes! The UAH Cooperative Education Program (Co-op) is an academic program that offers qualified students the opportunity to gain practical work experience while earning a degree. Students work in business, industry or government jobs directly related to their fields of study. This professional experience gives UAH Co-ops a head-start during school and at graduation. Co-op students supplement their education with practical work experiences. Students work a minimum of three terms, and gain paid, progressive responsibilities specifically related to the academic major. All degree-seeking students enrolled at UAH are eligible to apply to the Co-op Program.
