Application Overview
Applying for admission to the University of Alabama in Huntsville is an exciting time for students. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis although most freshman students enroll in the Fall. UAHuntsville strongly encourages students to have completed a college prepartory curriculum in high school. To maximize scholarship opportunities and class selection high school students should apply early in their senior year.

• The strength and quality of your curriculum
• Recent trends in your academic performance
• Your class rank

• Leadership expereince within your school, community or volunteer organization

FRESHMAN STUDENTS
Prospective students currently attending high school should apply for admission during the fall semester of their senior year in high school. Tentative admission will be granted on the basis of ACT or SAT scores and the high school record through the junior year. A final official transcript showing work completed in the senior year and confirmation of graduation will be reviewed before a student’s final admission. High school seniors are expected to present the following courses:
• A minimum of four units of English
• Three units of mathematics, including Algebra I, Algebra II and Geometry (Trigonometry is also required by the College of Engineering and recommended by all other colleges)
• Three units of science; and four units of history and/or social studies
In addition, students should present sufficient academic electives to meet the required twenty Carnegie high school units. Academic electives may include courses such as foreign language, computer programming, religion, philosophy as well as higher-level science and math courses.
Applicants having deficiencies in the required high school courses may be admitted in good standing under certain circumstances. The deficiencies, however, must be removed during the first year of enrollment in a manner approved by the department concerned. Courses taken to remedy entrance deficiencies cannot be used to satisfy degree requirements. High school graduates who have been out of high school five or more years may not be required to submit ACT or SAT test scores.

Home Schooled Students
High school students who are home schooled are reviewed for admission and for scholarships at UAHuntsville following the same criteria used for students from public and private high schools. The official high school record of courses completed should contain the titles of courses in each subject area, beginning with grade nine. This record should contain annotation of the general content in the academic courses and the textbooks used. The teaching credentials of the home school teacher should be included.

General Education Development (GED) Recipients
Persons who have not graduated from high school may be admitted on the basis of a satisfactory score on the GED test. A score of 500 is required for regular admission status. If out of high school less than 5 years, the applicant must also take the ACT or SAT and have a score report sent to the UAH Admissions office. An official transcript of completed high school courses is also required. UAH is a testing center for the GED program. Anyone seeking additional information or wishing to take the GED examination should contact the Office of Testing Services at 256. 824.6725.

Conditional Admission for High School Graduates
An individual who has applied for regular admission and who does not meet the admission criteria may be considered for admission on a conditional basis. The Director of Admission is authorized to offer conditional admission based on an evaluation of the student's previous academic credentials and evidence of serious commitment to academic pursuits. Conditionally admitted students are normally limited to a maximum of a 12 semester hour course load until a total of 15 semester hours of work is completed with at least an overall C (2.0) average.
Upon satisfactory completion of 15 or more hours of work, the conditional status will be removed. If the student at that time has earned at least a 2.00 GPA on all UAH coursework, the conditional classification will be changed to regular student status. Credits earned as a conditional admit are recorded on the student's permanent record and may count if applicable in a regular undergraduate degree program.

TRANSFER STUDENTS
Students With at Least 24 Academic Credit Hours
• Previous institutions must be regionally accredited.
• Must hold a minimum over college "C" average (2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale), along with a minimum
"C" average (2.0 GPA) in all transferrable courses.
• Must be in good academic standing at previous institution.
Students With Fewer Than 24 Academic Credit Hours
• Admission is based on high school grades, ACT or SAT scores and official college transcripts.
• A minimum overall college "C" average (2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale) is required.
Transfer Credit Eligibility
Eligibility of transfer credits depends upon subject matter of each credit and accreditation status for the institution awarding each credit. Not all transferable classes are applicable to every degree program offered at UAHuntsville. Consult our academic advisors to arrange evaluation of credits.
Transferring From a 4-Year College
If you are transferring from an accredited four-year institution, you may transfer unlimited number hours–with the exception of technical, remedial, vocational and orientation credits. UAHuntsville requires that 25% of total requirements and 12 of the final 18 degree hours are completed with UAHuntsville courses.
Transferring From a 2-Year College
A maximum of 64 semester hours of credit from a junior, community or two-year college may be transferred and applied to a degree program. Exceptions require written approval from the Dean of the college in which the student is enrolled.
Statewide Articulation Reporting System (STARS)
If you are transferring from a public two-year community college in Alabama, visit the STARS website to select a major and access a list of community colleges and core courses that will apply to your program of choice.
Transcript Evaluation
Upon admission to UAHuntsville, your transcripts will be evaluated for acceptance of transfer credit. Your advisor will determine the applicability of transfer credit toward satisfying degree requirements. To learn more connect with an advisor in your desired program area.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
Answer the Admission Guide questions to help understand admissions requirements.
1. Do you have U.S. Citizenship, Permanent Residency or are you a refugee in the U.S.?
• YES- Please complete the domestic application for admission to UAHuntsville.
• NO- Please complete the international admission application.
2. Have you received any education (secondary or university level) outside of the U.S.?
• YES- You must submit certified academic records from each secondary or university institution that you have attended. All academic records must be sent in the original language with a certified English translation. In addition, academic records for education received outside of the U.S. must be evaluated by a credential evaluation service.
• NO- If you completed all of your education inside the U.S., you are required to provide official academic transcripts from each secondary or university institution attended.
3. Do you have 24 or more hours of university level coursework from an accredited institution OR have you been out of secondary school (high school) for more than five years? Please contact the admissions office if you are unsure about your transfer hours?
• YES- You are NOT required to submit an official ACT or SAT score.
• NO- You are required to submit an official ACT or SAT score.
4. Is English your native language- the language used in the home where you were raised, in the schools where you were educated AND in daily business?
• YES- Where English is the primary language of the home, education/instruction, and daily business students are NOT required to submit a TOEFL score.
• NO- Students whose native language is not English must submit a TOEFL score. *Graduates from an accredited university in the USA with a bachelor’s degree or higher are not required to submit a TOEFL score.

5. Do you plan to study at UAH on a student visa (F1 or J1 student status)?
• YES- F1 and J1 students must submit an affidavit of financial support and original documents that prove that you or your sponsor has access to fluid funds sufficient to cover at least one-year’s tuition and living expenses.
• NO- Immigration laws do NOT require proof of sufficient funds for students in status other than F1 or J1 student.

SECOND BACHELORS
Students who have already earned a baccalaureate degree, but who want to pursue a second undergraduate degree.
Request that the Registrar of EACH college or university you have attended, regardless of length of attendance or credits earned, send an official transcript directly to the Office of Admissions.

Credentials and documentation required for admission vary by type of application. Admission to the University does not guarantee admission to a specific degree program. The Colleges of Administrative Science, Nursing and Engineering, and programs in Teacher Education and Music may have additional requirements. See the appropriate college or program section for more details. A one-time nonrefundable $30 application fee must accompany the admission application.
DUAL ENROLLMENT
Academically talented students may elect to concurrently enroll at UAHuntsville after the junior year of high school. Dual Enrollment students can receive both high school and college credit upon successful completion of courses. Early Start students receive college credit upon successful completion of the courses.

NON DEGREE
A special category for students who have earned at least a high school diploma but have no immediate degree plans. Non-degree students receive lower priority registration and are not eligible for financial aid, scholarships, or teaching/ research assistantships. Submit a high school transcript, GED scores or college transcript to the Office of Admissions.
