How big is your campus? How many students attend your University? What is the Student to Teacher Ratio? What is the average class size?

400 Acres, 7400 total students (5900 Undergraduate, 1500 Graduate), 16:1 student to faculty ratio, and the average class size is 24.

How many students live on campus?

About 15.8% of students live on campus. This is a comparable percentage with other large state schools.

Are freshmen required to live on campus?

Your freshman year at college is a time of change, adaptation, growth, and learning. Many find it can be improved and enhanced by living on campus. It is for these reasons, UAH requires all new full-time freshmen to live on campus. Students seeking an exception to this requirement are required to complete and submit an on-campus housing requirement waiver.

Students who live within a 30 mile radius of campus may chose an exemption from the requirement. The 30 mile radius includes: Ardmore, Athens, Brownsboro, Decatur, Elkmont, Flintville, Gurley, Hampton Cove, Hartselle, Harvest, Hazel Green, Huntsville, Lacey’s Spring, Madison, Meridianville, New Hope, New Market, Owens Cross Roads, Princeton, Somerville, Taft, Toney, Union Grove, Valhermoso Springs and Woodville

Are there freshmen specific residence halls?

Yes, all freshmen except those enrolled in the Honors Program are housed in Central Campus Residence Hall.

What are the visitation policies for the residence halls?

Visitation policies are as follows:

CCRH: Visitation is from 8am until 2am, 7 days a week. Residents must escort their guests at all times. Guests' Ids will be held at the front desk when they sign in and will be returned when they sign out. Same sex guests may spend the night upon approval from an RA or RD before 10pm on the day of the visit. An individual guest is permitted three overnight stays with an individual resident per 7-day period. You are responsible for your guests.

NCRH and NCRH II: Visitation is from 8am until 2am, weekdays (Sunday through Thursday); and 8am until 4am on weekends (Friday and Saturday). Guests must check in at the front desk and show identification upon entering the building between the hours of 5 p.m. and 8 a.m., and check out when leaving the building. An individual guest is permitted to three overnight stays with an individual resident per 7-day period. Family members of the opposite sex are allowed to stay overnight if approved by the RA or RD on the day of the visit. You are responsible for your guests.

SECH has a 22-hour visitation, 7 days a week, which means that guests can visit any time during the day or night, for limited periods, with permission of suitemates. You are responsible for your guests.

What is there to do on campus?

UAH has over 70 different clubs and organizations. Six fraternities and four sororities, numerous academic clubs and honor societies, Religious groups, a campus newspaper, Student Government Association, and many ethnic organizations. The Association for Campus Entertainment is very popular and hosts comedians, concerts, movies, as well as Fall Fest and Spring Fest activities. The residence hall council is a group of students who plan activities for the residents and serves as the voice of the students to the Student Government Association and to the Housing Office. The hall council also provides leadership opportunities to students living on campus and have an impact on the UAH community.

The Resident Assistants plan education programs and fun activities for residents to get to know their neighbors and floor mates. There are plenty of programs to attend and not only having fun, You might learn something useful.

Huntsville is a city of over 300,000 people. Huntsville offers much for its citizens: professional baseball, football, and hockey; Big Spring Jam, a 3-day event with 250,000 people 5 stages and 111 bands; Panolpy, a festival of the arts; 3 ice rinks; a 10,000 seat arena hosting comedians, concerts, and sporting events; 18 museums; 4 multi-screen movie theaters; 7 golf courses; 11 miles of hiking trails; 38 miles of mountain biking trails; 226 restaurants within 5 miles of campus.

What is the male to female ratio? The UAH student body is approximately 50% male and 50% female.

Average cost of tuition/out and in state? The approximate cost per semester based on 15 semester hours is $2976 for in-state students and $6546 for out-of-state students.

Are students safe on the UAH campus?

UAH is a very safe campus. Our police department is staffed with officers with full police power and authority. They work closely with faculty, staff and students to ensure a safe learning and living environment for our students. There are emergency phones and cameras in various locations all across the campus. Escort service is available from the Campus police for students leaving buildings after dark.

What is the step-by-step admissions process?

First complete the Undergraduate Admissions Application available at www.uah.edu/applications.htm. Prospective students can apply electronically or submit a paper application. Official transcripts from your high school and each college that you have attended should be sent to: The UAH Office of Admissions, 116 University Center, Huntsville, AL 35899. The last step in the process is to submit the Scholarship Application, available at www.uah.edu/applications.htm, to the UAH Office of Student Financial Services, 212 University Center, Huntsville, AL 35899. All applications are available on-line in both electronic and PDF formats. Applications also are available by calling 1-800-UAH-CALL.

Where can I find information about the residency requirements at UAH?

The residency policy is stated in the Undergraduate Catalog under the "Admissions Information" section on page 29. What is the earliest that I could complete my undergraduate career?

The average amount of time a student takes to complete their undergraduate degree is typically 5 years. However, a Bachelor's Degree can be finished in 4 years or less for motivated students.

Are freshmen allowed to have cars on campus? If I don't have a car, is transportation available?

Yes, freshmen may have cars on campus. If you do not have a car, Huntsville has a shuttle bus system with an on-campus bus stop that transports students to various shopping areas and movie theaters on University Drive. Bus service is free to students with a current UAH I. D.

When do I have to declare a major?

Students are encouraged to declare a major and file a program of study in their sophomore year. However there is no official timetable for declaring a major. Many students declare a major early in their academic career and then change it as they advance through their studies.

Are internships and Co-Op available?

Yes, UAH has one of the best Co-Op programs in the nation. The UAH Co-Op program is one of only twelve accredited Co-Op programs in the U. S. UAH is located in the middle of Cummings Research Park, the second largest research park in the U. S., and very close to Redstone Arsenal and NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center. The campus location presents many opportunities for UAH students to gain hands-on experience through the Co-Op program and different internship programs that are available. Unique opportunities exist at UAH for undergraduate students to work on major Federally-funded research programs. Two of the last five years a UAHuntsville co-op has been named National Co-op of the Year.

What other student employment opportunities are available?

How do students apply for financial aid? When is the Scholarship deadline?

Students are required to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible after January 1 of every year. Incoming freshmen seeking any form of financial aid should file the FAFSA as soon as possible after January 1 of their senior year of high school. FAFSA forms are available at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/. The FAFSA form must be completed PRIOR to applying for any UAH financial aid. For priority consideration, scholarship applications are due on or before December 1st of the student's senior year in high school. Will I have an academic advisor?

Yes, every student is assigned an academic advisor when admitted. If a student declares a major when applying, the academic advisor will be in the specific college of the student's major. Students who are undecided will be assigned an academic advisor from the Academic Advising Center. Your academic advisor is very important to your academic career and is dedicated to helping you. Students should contact their advisor as soon as possible after admission.

What are UAH's admissions standards?

UAH's admissions standards are based on a sliding scale that considers high school GPA, ACT or SAT scores and other factors as applicable. Your high school transcript will be evaluated together with your test scores and other relevant factors to reach an admission decision. UAH does not factor the written section of either the ACT or the SAT in to your admissions decision.

When is the deadline for admission?

UAH uses a rolling admissions process and a student may apply at any time; however, we stop accepting applications for admission to a specific semester one week before the first day of class for that semester. We recommend that applicants apply no later than July 1st prior to the fall semester or November 15 prior to the Spring semester in which they plan to enroll. Early application results in enhanced opportunities for obtaining desired classes and receiving financial aid.

When will I hear if I have been accepted?

After the Office of Admissions has received all high school and college transcripts, as well as your ACT or SAT scores, a decision is typically made within 2-3 days. The process can take longer, depending on the time of year and the manner in which you applied (in person, by mail, or on the web). UAH strives to process admission applications and notify applicants within one week or less after receiving all required paperwork from the applicant.

Do many UAH students go on to Graduate School?

Yes, many UAH students go on to succeed in Graduate Schools across the nation as well as here at UAH. Our graduates have found that UAH prepares them extremely well for pursuing advanced degrees.

What athletics facilities are available at UAH?

UAH has a state-of-the-art, 50,000 square foot fitness center that is free to full-time UAH students and available for a small fee to part-time UAH students. It has a fully equipped weight room, aerobic area, indoor running track, 3 full basketball courts, an Olympic swimming pool, and locker room facilities. In-which intercollegiate sports does UAH compete?

UAH competes in Division II in the Gulf South Conference in basketball, soccer, tennis, cross country, track, baseball, softball, and volleyball. UAH has the only competitive Division I ice hockey team in the South. Before moving to Division I, the UAH ice hockey team won 2 Division II National Championships. Admission to all athletic events is free to UAH students.

Are intramural sports programs available at UAH?

Yes! UAH has intramural flag football, 4-on-4 sand-pit volleyball, 6 pack soccer, dodge ball, 3-on-3 basketball, racquetball, ping pong, badminton, basketball, volleyball, kickball, ultimate frisbee and golf. For more information visit the intramural website.

Does UAH offer tutoring services?

Yes, UAH has multiple tutoring services available to students in all colleges, and we strongly encourage students to take advantage of these free tutoring services.

Does UAH have a Global Studies or Study Abroad program?
