Online Requisition System - ORS

Account Request Form:

It should be noted that user accounts for ORS are now accepted and authorized through the Office of Purchasing Services located in the Business Services building.  In the past, Computer & Network Services was the general point of contact for new account requests or questions regarding ORS.  This is no longer the case.

Computer & Network Services still serves as the caretaker of ORS and manages the Bravo system which hosts the ORS application, but actual account requests for these services and questions should be directed to the Office of Purchasing Services.

The account process for requesting access to ORS is easy, but you must be either a UAH faculty or staff employee of the university in order to request an account.

Simply download the ORS Account Request Form to your PC (Microsoft Excel and Adobe PDF versions are available below), and print it on your local printer.

Complete the request form and return it to the...

Office of Purchasing Services, located in the Business Services building...

You will be notified (via a confirmation letter) once your account and access have been established.  Please allow 3-5 business days for processing.

If after 7 days you have not received your confirmation letter, please contact our Computer & Network Services Help Desk.  They can be reached by phone at 824.2639 or by email at helpdesk@email.uah.edu.  It is important that you tell the help desk representative that you applied for a "Online Requisition System" account.

Software needed to connect to ORS.

You will need to have a telnet client capable of VT220 emulation installed on your system.  What's that?  VT220 is a very popular emulation used to connect to Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) computer systems.  Many inexpensive software packages are available which offer VT220 emulation.

For your convenience Computer & Network Services maintains a site license on a really nice package for Windows PCs and support for a entirely free package for Macintosh systems.

Windows 95/98 and NT systems:

The university maintains a site license for the very popular and reliable WinQVT application.  WinQVT features VT220 emulation and is available free of charge for use on university owned computers.  The WinQVT application is pretty easy to install, but we recommend that you contact the Computer & Network Services Help Desk to schedule an appointment for the software's installation.  They can be reached by telephone at 824.2639 or by email at helpdesk@email.uah.edu

Apple and Apple Macintosh systems:

If you are an Apple user NCSA has put together a really nice VT220 telnet package for you.  It is called "NCSA Telnet" and is available for download from their web site.

The "NCSA Telnet" application is pretty easy to install, but we recommend that you contact the Computer & Network Services Help Desk to schedule an appointment for the software's installation.  They can be reached by telephone at 824.2639 or by email at helpdesk@email.uah.edu  Be sure to mention that you are a Mac user when you contact our help desk to request the NCSA Telnet package.

Whom should I contact when I have problems with my ORS system computer account?

For User ID / password problems?  Contact our Computer & Network Services Help Desk.  In many cases they will be able to address your problem over the phone during normal university business hours.  They may be reached at 824.2639 or by email at helpdesk@email.uah.edu.

Need help getting started with ORS?  Please, contact the Office of Purchasing Services.  ORS is a brand new program, so Purchasing Services is in the process of conducting training workshops for current faculty and staff employees.  For now, these workshops are offered twice a week.  Once the current training cycle is complete, (the end of August) the workshops will be offered monthly.  Please contact Candy Townley at townleyc@email.uah.edu for more information on ORS training programs offered by Purchasing Services.

For help with the WinQVT application?  Visit the Computer & Network Services Help Desk home page and review the Online Documentation and Frequently Asked Questions section of their site.  The page is a little sparse just now, but we are in the process of converting some older paper documents into html versions and downloadable Word documents.  If you don't find what you need on the web site, please check back again and for the time being give our help desk a call at 824.2639.
