UAHuntsville Network: ChargerMail & Campus Email System
Every student and member of the faculty and staff at UAHuntsville is assigned an Campus Email System account.
ChargerMail is simply a user-friendly interface that allows students, faculty, and staff to access their Campus Email System accounts through a web browser.
Activation of New Email Accounts
The activation of university email accounts is a completely automatic process with no action required on the student's part other than registering for classes. New students who registered for classes during the Early Registration period are assigned an email account a week before the start of their first semester at UAHuntsville. Students who register for classes during the Late Registration period immediately preceeding the start of the semester can expect to wait up to 72 hours after registering before their email accounts are activated.
No formal notification is sent out when new accounts are activated. You can, however, use one of the following two methods to check whether or not your email account has been activated:
- Search for your name in the online version of the UAHuntsville Directory. The Directory is updated with the names and contact information of new students shortly after new email accounts are activated each semester. To look up your email address in the Directory, simply enter your name in the Directory's search engine. Your email address will be displayed to the right of your name in the search results. This method will not work if you have opted out of having your email address posted in the Directory.
- Look up your email address in the Banner student registration system.
- Log in to Banner (http://register.uah.edu) using your A-number and PIN.
- Once you are logged in, select the "Personal Information" tab.
- Select the "View Email Addresses" option from the menu.
- If your email account has been activated, your full email address will be listed under the heading "Personal Email Address."
Do not panic if you cannot find your email address right away. Technical difficulties do occasionally delay the activation of new email accounts. Continue checking Banner or the Directory from time to time, and you should see your email address listed within a few days. If your email address is still not listed after a week's time, contact TAG at (256) 824-3333 or visit the TAG Help Desk in the library.
You will be required to present a photo ID to confirm your identity before the help desk staff can assist you.
Logging into ChargerMail
To login you will need to know your Charger ID username and password. Your Charger ID username is everything to the left of the “@” symbol in your UAHuntsville email address. The default Charger ID password is your first and last initials in lowercase followed by the last six digits of your Banner number. For example: John Z. Doe's offical UAHuntsville email address is jzd0099@uah.edu, and his A-number is A00112233, so his Charger ID is jzd0099 and his default password is jd112233.
If you have forgotten your Charger ID password after changing it from the default setting, the TAG Help Desk can reset your password. For security reasons, you must visit the TAG Help Desk in person and verify your identity with a photo ID to have your password reset.
You can log in to ChargerMail through either the ChargerMail Login page or the ChargerNet web portal. You will need to configure ChargerNet to access your ChargerMail account the first time you log in.

POP and IMAP Email Clients
Another way to check your email account is with a POP or IMAP email client like Outlook, Eudora, or Apple's Mail. The table below contains the information you will need to set up your email client to access your university email account.
| User Name |
Your ChargerID username |
| Password |
Your ChargerID password |
| Incoming Mail Server |
email.uah.edu |
| Outgoing Mail Server |
email.uah.edu |
Email Attachments
You can send and receive email attachments that are up to 10 MB in size through your UAHuntville email account. The email system prevents the sending or delivery of *.exe, *.vbs, and some other program file formats. This restriction is in place to protect users of the Campus Email System from computer viruses, Trojan horses, worms, and other malicious software. If you do need to send a program file through UAHuntsville's email system for legitimate reasons, you will need to ZIP the file first, regardless of whether you are using ChargerMail or a POP/IMAP email client.
Forwarding Email & Auto-Response Messages
To have your UAHuntsville email forwarded to another email address or to set up an auto-response "away" message for your email account, visit the UAH Email Maintenance website.
Click here for the UAH Email Maintenance website.
Sign in to the website just as you would to ChargerMail. Once you have signed in, you may enter the address you wish your UAHuntsville email to be forwarded to. You may also enable and/or modify the auto-response script for your email account.
