UAHuntsville Network: Banner
Banner is UAHuntsville's secure online system for student registration and records, financial aid, human resources, and finance. Banner is totally web-based. No special software, other than a web browser and Internet connection, is required for access.
Banner Student Self-Service
Banner Student Self-Service is the main online tool for students to register for classes, apply for financial aid, view their grades and academic records, pay tuition, and update personal information on file with the university.
First Time Banner Student Self-Service Login
UAHuntsville utilizes the following login procedure to allow incoming freshmen and transfer students to access Banner Student Self-Service for the first time:
- Go to the Banner Registration login page (http://register.uah.edu).
- Click on the "Enter Secure Area" link in the menu.
- In the field labeled "User ID," enter your full A-number (student ID number) that you received in your admission packet. The "User ID" field is case sensitive, so make sure you use an UPPERCASE "A" when typing your A-number. See the Forgotten A-numbers and PIN's sub-section below for what to do if you cannot find your A-number.
- Enter your date of birth in MMDDYY format in the field labeled "PIN." For example, someone born on July 11, 1984 would type 071184 into the "PIN" field.
- Click on the "Login" button with your mouse.
- Once you have logged in, a message telling you that your PIN has expired will appear. This message is Banner Self-Service’s way of prompting you to create a new PIN. Follow the on-screen directions and enter a new PIN of your choosing when instructed. Your new PIN must consist only of numbers and be six (6) digits in length. Make sure you record your new PIN in a secure location.
- You will also be prompted to provide a "Security Question" and "Answer" the first time you access Banner Self-Service. The purpose of the Security Question is to provide Banner with a way of confirming your identity in the event you forget your PIN. When choosing your Security Question and Answer, keep in mind that the Answer is case sensitive.
Your MMDDYY birth date will only work as your PIN the first time you log in to Banner. All subsequent logins will require you to enter your A-number for the User ID and the new PIN you created.
Regular Banner Student Self-Service Login
After creating a new PIN (see above), you can log in to Banner again through the same Banner Registration login page (http://register.uah.edu). Simply input your A-number in the "User ID" field and the new PIN you created in the "PIN" field to sign in. The "User ID" field is case sensitive, so make sure you use an UPPER case "A" when entering your A-number.

Banner may also be accessed through ChargerNet using the following method:
- Go to the ChargerNet login page (http://chargernet.uah.edu).
- Sign in to ChargerNet using your Charger ID username and password.
- Once you are logged in, click on the "Student" tab.
- Select one of the links in the "Student Services" menu to go to the equivalent page in Banner.
Registering for Classes via Banner
Before registering for classes each semester, all students are required to meet with their academic advisor to determine what courses should be taken and obtain a Registration Access Code (RAC). As the name implies, a RAC allows students to access Banner's course registration page where they can add or drop classes.
Note: The TAG Help Desk cannot assign or look up RAC's. If you have lost your RAC, contact your academic advisor.
For more information registering for classes visit the Charger Central website.

Forgotten A-numbers and PIN's
If you have forgotten your A-number, first check any official letters from UAHuntsville that you may have on hand. Provided the letter is something like a tuition bill and not a mass mailing, your A-number may be located somewhere on the letter.
If you cannot find any official letters with your A-number, you can ask the staff at either the TAG Help Desk in the library or Charger Central in University Center room 118 to look up your A-number. You must do this in person, as the staff at both locations are required to ask you for a university or government-issued photo ID to confirm your identity before they can look up your A-number.
If you have forgotten your PIN and cannot remember the answer to your security question, the TAG Help Desk and Charger Central can reset your PIN number to the initial PIN of your date of birth in MMDDYY format. As with looking up your A-number, you will be asked to show a photo ID to confirm your identity.
