Campus Site License Software Programs
General
Information
Campus Site License Software is available only to
UAH employees for use on equipment owned by or leased to UAH and under the
control of the university unless otherwise specifically stated. The software is
protected under international copyright laws.
Duplicating any software or
documentation in violation of the license agreement is a violation of the law
and University policy. Doing so may place you at risk of personal civil
and criminal liability.
In addition, students, staff, and
faculty of UAH may be subject to university disciplinary action.
Computer & Network Services
reviews the
site licenses periodically and may discontinue a license or its maintenance at
any time.
Software site licenses maintained by
UAH Computer & Network Services fall into two categories: site licenses and volume
purchase agreements.
Site licensed software may be
obtained from IS without cost. The costs associated with licensing software
under volume purchase agreements are typically passed on to the end user's
department, but these costs are very reasonable.
The current status of site licenses
and volume discounts is listed below. Microsoft products (through MOLP) and SPSS are
volume-discounted software; all other products listed are site licensed.
Microsoft and Adobe Site
Licensed Software Applications:
UAH offers many Microsoft and Adobe products.
Microsoft products are provided
under the Microsoft Open License Program or "MOLP" program. MOLP is
a program which allows the
University to purchase most Microsoft products at substantially discounted
prices. These licenses are version-specific and generally do not cover upgrades,
unless upgrade advantage is purchased for the product. A standard form
(listed below) is used to request MOLP as well as Adobe products, and the installation
of the software is scheduled through the
CNS helpdesk.
For your convenience,
the MOLP/Campus Site License request form is available off the CNS Help Desk Web Site.
Current Campus Site License Request Form
Note: the
current MOLP request form supersedes all forms, as software titles have
been discontinued and others added. Be sure to download the
current version of the form anytime you wish to place an
order.

Other Microsoft products are
available, but must be ordered through Computer & Network Services and require one week
lead-time. Contact our Computer & Network Services help desk for more
information.
Computer & Network Services
has been
looking into the possibility of making Microsoft's products available through
Microsoft's Select program. At present this program is quite costly and
requires special licensing with the University that in the past has precluded us from
participating in this program. More information about that program will be
announced, here, on this web site.
McAfee AntiVirus software:
CNS has been working with the UAB and
Tuscaloosa campuses to offer a standard enterprise antiviral package for
their faculty, staff and students. As a result of this joint program
we are able to offer the campus community a free copy of the McAfee
VirusScan software application for use on their Windows PCs.
IMPORTANT:
If you have a university owned
computer system, and your system was installed by the CNS technical
staff, it is very likely that you will not need this
update. Why? The version installed by our technical staff
includes a utility called EPO, which provides managed updates via a
central campus server. This server updates your software for you
without any intervention on your part.
If you are using an antiviral
software application other than McAfee you will need to uninstall that
software prior to installing our distribution of McAfee.
Students and residents of University
Housing who installed the version of McAfee on their computers prior to June
21, 2007 should note: If you took advantage of our free
distribution of McAfee VirusScan prior to June 21, 2007, it is important
that you download and install this this copy is version 8.5. Why?
This will insure that you continue to receive your antiviral updates in a
timely manner and this version corrects a few bugs that were present in the
version 8.0 release.
This software is available for
immediate
download by students, faculty and staff.
