Top Questions received regarding our Training Program

Question: Who may take classes offered through Computer & Network Services?

Most of the classes we will offer are primarily for Faculty and Staff employees of the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

We may be offering short workshops for UAH students as the new Banner Luminis or "ChargerNET" interface for Banner becomes available (sometime in January 2008).

Question: Is there a cost associated with the classes or documentation I receive?

In most cases no.  Classes and documentation will be offered to University Faculty and Staff employees free-of-charge except in special cases where class materials or specialized lecture requires some form of cost recovery.  Classes requiring remuneration, will be clearly noted in the course registration announcements.

Question: How will you announce the workshops and classes you offer?

Classes and workshops will be announced via the online catalog located on our Training Server web site... http://echo.uah.edu/cns_training  and the "is-announce" list server.

Question: How do I subscribe to the "is-announce" list server?

It is easy to subscribe to the "is-announce" list server.

  • Activate your favorite email package and address an email message to  majordomo@info.uah.edu.  Note that we are addressing our message to info.uah.edu rather than email.uah.edu.

  • It is not necessary to include a subject heading in your message, feel free to add one if you like.

  • Next, enter the following statement: "subscribe is-announce" (without the quotation marks of course) in the body or "text" portion of your email message.  Once you have this statement entered, simply send the message.

  • The list server will send you a reply which may appear a little cryptic, but this is your confirmation that you are subscribed to the list.

Question: How do I un-subscribe from the "is-announce" list server?

Un-subscribing from our list server is just as easy as subscribing.

  • Simply address an email message to majordomo@info.uah.edu.  It is not necessary to include a Subject in your message.  It won't hurt if you include a subject.

  • In the body or "text" of the message enter the following statement: "unsubscribe is-announce" (without the quotation marks of course).

  • Once you have this statement entered, send the message.  This will remove your name from our email mailing list.

Question: Will I receive some form of confirmation when I sign up for a class?

Yes, we will send you an email reply to confirm your registration for a particular class.

NOTE: Since we are using the campus LDAP server for your account information, your official UAH email address will be the address that receives the confirmation notice.

Please be careful to note the date, time and location listed on your class  confirmation.

This will insure you arrive at class on the proper date, time and location.

In most cases, you should receive your confirmation notice almost immediately after you have registered.

Question: Will I receive any academic or Continuing Education credit for the classes I take through Computer & Network Services?

No.  Although we do feel our courses will be beneficial to your employment with the university, we cannot offer any college or CE credit for them.  If you are interested in taking a course for academic or CE credit, we suggest you refer to either the UAH Academic Catalog or contact the UAH Division of Continuing Education
