Chamaecyparis pisifera 'Filifera Aurea' - Golden Threadleaf Falsecypress

Family - Cupressaceae

Size - Forms a slightly pyramidal dense loose mound 6 to 8 feet tall. Growth rate is medium, maybe 10 - 12 inches per year.

Foliage - Drooping and stringy branches. Very fine textured. Bright golden-yellow year round.

Flower/Fruit/Seed - Cones, 1/4" across.

Bark - Smooth. reddish-brown, peeling off in thin strips. Not noticable on this plant due to the habit which keeps the bark covered.

Pests and Diseases - None noticed

Landscape Use - Accent plant, rock garden plant. The foliage can be rather striking.

Performance - 8 Prefers moist, loamy well drained soils, humid atmosphere, sunny areas. Can be grown relatively quickly to large sizes in container. Emittor and tubing irrigation is a must as overhead irrigation will not penetrate the canopy very well. A cutting was grown to a 3'tall, 3'wide plant in 3 years. I've been pleased with the Chamaecyparis in general and how they have well they have performed in what can be horrid summers in the South.
