Cedrus libani 'Nana' - Dwarf Cedar of Lebanon

Family - Pinaceae

Size - Very dissimiliar to the species, it forms a globose bush maybe to 6' tall and as wide. A slow grower, the plant in this photo was a 2 1/2 foot tall, 5 gallon plant in the winter of 1991. It is approximately 3 1/2 to 4' tall in 1997.

Foliage - Dark green needles, evergreen conifer. Foliage is much tighter and densely arranged. Approximately 30 to 40 to a bundle on short shoots.

Flower/Fruit/Seed - Cone

Bark - Similiar to the species with age however it stays hidden because of the dense foliage.

Pests and Diseases - None noticed

Landscape Use - Conifer garden, could be used as a very attractive hedge if one wants to give it the time. Would need very little if any pruning.

Performance - 9 Does well here with no problems. Tolerates drought once established. Ours is in a fairly exposed location and has no problems with winter burn as some evergreens can experience in severe cold. Just a slow grower.
