The Department of Public Safety is located in the Physical Plant Building off John Wright Drive.  The office also known as the UAH Campus Police Department, is open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, including weekends and holidays.  The primary mission of the Department is to assist the University in achieving its educational mission by providing a safe and healthy campus environment.  The Department staff totals 24, including police officers, support personnel and student employees.

        UAH police officers are certified by the Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission in Montgomery, Alabama.  Officers receive mandated annual in-service training in areas such as firearms, legal issues, and tactical skills from the Huntsville Police Academy.  Officers also receive certification in First Aid and CPR from the American Heart Association.

        UAH officers enforce federal, state, and local statues as well as UAH regulations.  Officers protect the campus area by motor vehicle, bicycle and foot patrol.  These officers have broad law enforcement powers including the authority to make arrest.

        Most everyone on campus is familiar with the CAMPUS POLICE location-----. I know you say, only because you go there to get your parking decal. Truth is a lot of people visit the UAH Police Office because it is also the Department of Public Safety.  Here is where you not only acquire parking decals but also obtain information about campus safety. Parking rules and regulations are also obtained from the Safety/Police office and are a necessity to students and faculty alike, but if you need law enforcement aid, or special help, the UAH Campus Police Station is a welcome sight indeed.

         
        The front entrance of the Physical Plant Building affords direct access to the Police office window where you may obtain help or information from qualified personnel. Police personnel in the Physical Plant Building are in constant contact with officers patrolling campus.  Help can be dispatched to any place on campus in a moments notice.

        The campus police office is also the place for obtaining information or brochures on safety regulations, parking information, or campus directions.  Also where you pay ticketed traffic violations.
