        The Facilities & Operations Maintenance Department is one of the largest departments in the Physical Plant. It consist of all the various shops that account for the different types of maintenance on campus i.e. Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, Painting, General Maintenance, Construction.

        All maintenance work is directed through the Facilities Maintenance Department with the use of a work order, whether it be routine or a special request, a Maintenance Management Program is used to track maintenance jobs from start to finish.

        • THE ELECTRICAL SHOP

          • The crew of the electrical shop are always busy with the miles and miles of electrical wire in each building on campus, not to mention all the under ground cables.

        • HVAC SHOP

          • All of UAH's buildings need either heat or air conditioning year round in order to maintain tolerable working conditions for students and employees. This is why the HVAC Shop never slows down. The HVAC crew works on any equipment, device, part, or mechanism that may control, change or produce some sort of temperature fluctuation. We not only appreciate these fellows when it is an extremely hot or extremely cold day, but also when the ice machines don't make ice and the water coolers don't cool water. Thanks guys!

        • PLUMBING SHOP

          • The Plumbing Crew is responsible for thousands of water lines buried on campus grounds and in the many UAH buildings.  All of the plumbing maintenance is done by UAH's Facilities & Operations plumbing crew.

        • PAINT SHOP

          • UAH's paint crew stays busy year round painting the many UAH buildings inside and out.  They are definitely the group of professionals that add the luster and sparkle to UAH's campus buildings.

        • GENERAL MAINTENANCE

          • The General Maintenance Crew works in every building on campus doing repairs on what ever need to be repaired.  This crew is multi talented and stay busy all the time.

        • CONSTRUCTION

          • The Facilities & Operation's Construction Crew is made up of maintenance workers who build, renovate, and reconstruct things. For instance we have carpenters, electricians, painters etc. This crew consist of the people that change the shape of a room or an area in a building.

        • BEVILL CENTER MAINTENANCE

          • Two areas on campus require the presence of maintenance personnel at all times,since people not only work but also reside there. The Tom Bevill Conference Center and Hotel, usually called the Bevill Center for short, is managed by Sodexho, but it is owned and maintained by UAH which provides a maintenance shop and two full-time employees.

        • HOUSING MAINTENANCE

          • The second of two UAH buildings with an internal maintenance shop and personnel is Housing.  Like the Bevill Center maintenance personnel, they maintain every aspect of maintenance from general maintenance to the complicated electrical and HVAC work. Of course both of these buildings have the use of all Facilities & Operations maintenance crews if needed. And all work done in both buildings are coordinated through the Work Order Center. No maintenance work is done in any building without a work order. Housing Maintenance takes care of the apartments on the southeast side of campus, the three multi-story residence halls, and the fraternity and sorority houses.

        • LOCKSMITH SHOP

          • The 28 buildings on campus, plus a couple off campus, have close to 10,000 rooms and that means a minimum of 10,000 keys. Of course, this number is a minimum because some rooms may require more than one key depending on the number of occupants, closets, storage rooms etc. The locksmith shop located in the Physical Plant Building has the prodigious task of making keys for all the locks on campus as well as maintaining, repairing, and installing the locks, which means possibly re-keying or replacing those locks. Besides room locks there are a great deal of cabinet, desk, and other small locks that require maintenance and keys. Needless tosay, the locksmiths are always busy.

        • STOCKROOM

          • Of course all these maintenance shops must have parts and material in order to repair or renovate the buildings on campus. As luck would have it---Facilities & Operations has its own Stockroom. The Stockroom however, does more than just store parts and material for the maintenance shops.
