How many cheerleading squads does UAH have?
UAH currently has one co-ed squad.
Are high school students or transfer students allowed to try out?
Yes, as long as they have been accepted to be a UAH Student for the up coming semester.
Does UAH Cheer Competitively?
UAH Cheerleaders have just competed at the UCA National Competition in Orlando, FL. & placed 4th in the small co-ed divison II.
What athletic events do the cheerleaders cheer at?
Home games for the UAH Hockey,Women's & Men's Basketball.
How many cheerleaders are on the Squad?
The 2007-08 squad consists of 17 cheerleaders (4 guys and 13 girls).
How often do the cheerleaders practice?
Practices vary. During competition season extra practices are added.
When are tryouts?
Tryouts are held every spring semester.
Are tryouts open to the public?
No. Tryouts are closed to the public.
How are the UAH Cheerleaders selected?
Cheerleaders are selected based on their ability to represent UAH as well as their ability to perform required technical skills.
What are tryouts like?
Cheerleaders are selected based on their ability to represent UAH as well as their ability to perform required technical skills. Tryouts are generally a few days long. Participants will be evaluated on technical skills. Participants will perform cheers, band chants, stunts etc..
What are the required skills?
At a minimum a standing backhandspring and a round-off back handspring are required. Additional tumbling skills will result in additional points. Stunt skills required are as follows: toss extension, liberty & heel stretch. Men will be required to perform toss hands, toss should stand, toss extension & toss lib.
Do the UAH Cheerleaders receive Scholarships?
Yes. Some of the UAH Cheerleaders are on partial scholarship and this is determined by the coach after tryouts. |
