How many cheerleading squads does UAH have?
UAH currently has one co-ed squad.
Are high school students or transfer students allowed to try out?
Yes, as long as they have been accepted to be a UAH Student for the up coming semester.
Does UAH Cheer Competitively?
UAH Cheerleaders have just competed at the 2009 UCA National Competition in Orlando, FL. & placed 6th in the Small Co-ed Divison II. In 2008 the UAH Cheerleaders Place 4th at the same competition.
What athletic events do the cheerleaders cheer at?
Home games for the UAH Hockey and Women's & Men's Basketball.
How many cheerleaders are on the Squad?
The 2008-2009 squad consists of 17 cheerleaders (4 guys and 13 girls).
How often do the cheerleaders practice?
Practices vary. During competition season extra practices are added.
When are tryouts?
Tryouts are usually held in the spring.
Are tryouts open to the public?
No. Tryouts are closed to the public.
How are the UAH Cheerleaders selected?
Cheerleaders are selected based on their ability to represent UAH as well as their ability to perform required technical skills.
What are tryouts like?
Tryouts are generally a few days long. Participants will be evaluated on technical skills. Participants will perform cheers, chants, stunts, tumbling, etc..
What are the required skills?
At a minimum a standing backhandspring and a round-off back handspring are required. Additional tumbling skills will result in additional points. Stunts will be judged all girl and co-ed. At a minimum all tops will have to do extension/ cradle and toss shoulders/ pop off. You will also be required to demonstrate at least two other stunts in addition to the two required.
Do the UAH Cheerleaders receive Scholarships?
Yes. This year we wil give out twelve $1000 Scholarships to be given out in the spring.
