From September 25 – November 6, 2008, UAHuntsville hosted its third session of the TEA program for 20 TEA fellows from Bangladesh, India, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. In addition, UAHuntsville hosted the End of Program Conference in Huntsville (November 6 – 9, 2008) for all 60 international TEA fellows, administrators, and 15 U.S. educators participating in TEA programs across the United States.
TEA provides secondary school teachers from Eurasia and South Asia with unique opportunities to develop expertise in their subject areas, enhance their teaching skills, and increase their knowledge about the United States. The professional development program includes intensive training in teaching methodologies, curriculum writing, teaching strategies for the participants’ home environment, educational leadership, as well as the use of computers for Internet, word processing, and as teaching tools. The goals of the program are: (1) to contribute to the improvement of teaching in the participating countries; (2) to provide international educators with an important professional development opportunity in the United States that will enhance their ability to contribute to national development; (3) to create among educators a deeper understanding of the United States; and (4) to develop productive and lasting relationships and mutual understanding between American and international teachers and their students.

The six-week program also includes a two-week internship at Alabama secondary schools to engage participants actively with American teachers and students. Also, TEA provides follow-on grants to selected international teachers to purchase essential materials for their schools, to offer follow-on training for other teachers, and to conduct other activities that will build on the exchange visits.
The success of the TEA program at UAHuntsville would not be possible without the strong support of our local 2008 TEA Partners. Thank you for your generous contributions of time and effort to the TEA program at UAHuntsville!
UAHuntsville also hosted two sessions of TEA in 2007. Click on TEA 2007 for more details.
