Symposia and Forums

Since October 1994, the OIPS has played an instrumental role in assisting and coordinating international symposia and forums held at UAH. The OIPS has also been co-sponsor of various campus symposia and forums organized by the Model UN Club, the Humanities Center, the History Forum and other units.

Teaching Excellence & Achievement (TEA) End-of-Program Conference (Fall 2007; Fall 2008)
In 2007 and 2008, OIPS hosted three TEA Programs-- each a 6-week long professional development program for international educators-- sponsored by the International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX) and the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs at the U.S. Department of State. The OIPS also hosted two TEA End-of-Program Conferences in 2007 and 2008, where educators and administrators from TEA programs around the country met in Huntsville to share their experiences.

UAH Society for Ancient Languages Classic Week 2002 (Spring 2002)
The OIPS supported the public lectures presented by Dr. David Lindberg, University of Wisconsin, Madison, on the topics of "The Medieval Church Confronts Pagan Science" and "Galileo, the Church, and the Cosmos". In addition, Dr. Lindberg gave a lecture entitled "Did Educated Medieval People Believe in a Flat Earth?" at the 2002 Society for Ancient Languages convivium.

UAH Art and Art History: Dora Project (Spring 2001)
The OIPS supported the gallery showing of photographs and artifacts from the Mittlebau-Dora slave labor camp in Germany by Alvin Gilens and his public lecture entitled "Discovery and Despair: Dimensions of Dora."

UAH History Forum: Dr. Michael Neufeld (Fall 1999)
The OIPS supported the public lecture presented by Dr. Michael Neufeld, historian at the Smithsonian Institute, on the Von Braun German rocket team.

UAH German Study Club Abroad Forum (Fall 1996)
The director of the OIPS moderated a study abroad forum sponsored by the UAH German Club. The panel consisted of students who discussed their experiences after having participated in a study abroad program.

Russia: Nursing in Space (Summer 1996)
The OIPS assisted the Division of Continuing Education (CE) in arranging the logistics for the semi-annual Nursing in Space Conference to be held in Moscow. (After final arrangements were made, CE cancelled the conference due to low enrollment.)

England: Dr. Jane Hawkes (Spring 1995)
The OIPS assisted the Department of Art and Art History in the presentation of a lecture on women, society, and other cultural themes in works of art of medieval England. The scholar who made the presentation was Dr. Hawkes of the University of Newcastle, England.

UAH Spanish Club Study Abroad Forum (Fall 1995)
The director of the OIPS moderated a study abroad forum sponsored by the UAH Spanish Club. The panel consisted of students who discussed their experiences after having participated in a study abroad program.

Middle East: Mr. Surkis Eitan-Amog (Spring 1995)
In conjunction with the UAH-Huntsville Times Global Affairs Forum, the OIPS provided the logistics for and chaired a panel presentation headed by Mr. Ersoy, the Fulbright representative from Turkey. The discussion centered on political and economic changes in Turkey.
