Facilities and Operations Safety
Safety within Facilities and Operations is supported by all staff within the Department. Safety meetings are conducted
through the OEHS on the third Thursday of each month from 2:30 to 3:30 at the University Center. Immediate reporting of
hazardous situations is the responsibility of each employee of Facilities. Hazards and specific safety needs may also
be reported through the Facilities and Operations Safety Council.
Facilities and Operations Safety Council Charge
The council is concerned with all forms of physical and chemical safety hazards that may be encountered by the employees
of the Facilities and Operations Department in their daily work routines. Hazards shall include, but are not limited to,
respiratory hazards, chemical hazards, electrical hazards, slip, trip and fall hazards, confined space hazards, ergonomic
hazards, and audiometric hazards.
The council will provide guidance and assistance for the implementation and maintenance
of an organized system for recognizing, reporting and correcting hazards. The council will be responsible for the timely
reporting of hazards to appropriate personnel and an annual review of the Facilities and Operations Safety Manual. Hazards
are identified in the Occupational Health and Safety Act regulations and recommendations as found in Chapter 29 of the
Code of Federal Regulations. The Safety Council will meet in Johnson Research Center room 105 at 9:00 a.m. on the second
Tuesday of each quarter (January, April, July, and October), unless otherwise specified.
