Welcome to the New Media Consortium
The New Media Consortium (NMC) is a student-led organization focused on digital and interactive technology and communication. The club was created through the development of the Web Cognate Program at The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH). The program is designed to teach students theories about Web development and design principals so they will be among the best communicators in the Web environment.
We know that the Web medium is interdisciplinary and seek to broaden our understanding through dialogue with mentors in the field, hands-on experience and learning from each other. Our student members have different backgrounds ranging from graphic design, communications, MIS, computer science, and psychology.
What is New Media?
New Media is not a broad and indefinable term used to describe us and our interests. It covers a wide array of mediums which is focused, but not limited to our interest in Web design and what the Internet can offer. New Media is simply what it says it is, media that is new. This includes the possibilities offered through the Web such as community connecting features of Thefacebook.com, as well as computer and graphic design centric entertainment as seen on Cartoon Networks Adult Swim. Such media is what will drive future aspects of our society, and this is what we are passionate about.
NMC in 2005 / 2006
This year, the New Media Consortium will be focusing on Podcasting. Podcasting is a way of free broadcasting over the internet via MP3 files and RSS feeds. Later on in the year, we will feature a guest speaker and will eventually hold a workshop on Podcasting. Be sure to check this Web site or ask NMC members for updates. |
