UAH'S OFFICE OF CAREER SERVICES can help put you on the right track in your career. Through assessment and counseling, Career Services can help you investigate possible career choices and assist you in finding employment. Resources available to UAH students include workshops on resume writing and interviewing techniques, access to a computerized statewide job bank, and occupational information. Among the office's more popular events are the semi-annual Career Information Day and Interview Day. In the past, more than 150 corporations have visited campus to meet UAH students. After graduation, Career Services acts as a liaison between alumni and employers nationwide who are seeking degreed professionals. Before students declare a major and are assigned an advisor, the ACADEMIC ADVISEMENT CENTER can help select the courses needed and approve your schedule for registration. Academic Advisement can also answer questions about degree or course prerequisites, or help with any academic problems students might have before being assigned an advisor in the academic departments. UAH students begin a relationship with the OFFICE OF STUDENT DEVELOPMENT & ORIENTATION SERVICES during summer campus orientation program before their freshman year. Student Development provides a variety of services to meet many needs, including tutoring for many lower-level courses. These services are provided free to all students. SD&OS also provides free personal counseling and sponsors workshops and seminars on such topics as study skills, stress management, and drug and alcohol awareness. UAH's WELLNESS CENTER provides care to UAH students for minor injuries and illnesses. The center is staffed by a full-time nurse practitioner. A physician is on call to deal with more serious problems. The center is open from 8:15 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. After hours, the Wellness Center staff works with medical and administrative personnel in emergency situations. The UNIVERSITY CENTER is a part of the co-curricular educational program of the University and is a focal point of the campus. Designed for the entire campus community, it offers facilities and programs to meet the intellectual, social, recreational, and cultural needs of students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the entire Huntsville community. The facility offers meeting rooms, a cafeteria, lounges, a game room, TV viewing rooms, an information desk, an art gallery, and the University Bookstore. |
