Home winning streak comes to an end for Lady Chargers

North Alabama 56, UAH 53 (2/4)

The Lady Charger basketball team had their chances. They had golden opportunites to pull off another thrilling win on the home floor. But, those opportunities went up in smoke when a pair of layups and a long 3-pointer wouldn't fall. The result, a 56-53 loss to rival North Alabama.

The loss not only snapped an 11-game home winning streak for the Lady Chargers, but it tagged UAH with its second straight loss.

Trailing by a point (54-53) with 21 seconds left, the Lady Chargers had a chance to win the game with UNA forward Alana Sinyard missed a pair of freethrows. LaKendra Hogg's layup rolled off of the front of the rim, but LaDasha Tompkins grabbed the offensive rebound. However, Tompkins' putback attempt also rolled off and UNA came down with the ball.

After a pair of freethrows by the Lady Lions, UAH had one last shot to tie the game. But, Katie Caldwell's 3-pointer didn't draw iron.

Kim Young led UAH with 19 points and eight rebounds, while Hogg added 11 points and nine boards. Tompkins pulled down 11 rebounds to go with nine points. Taryn Causey led UNA with 16 points.

Lincoln Memorial 55, UAH 44 (2/2)

The Lady Charger basketball team's offense short-circuited at Lincoln Memorial. The result was a 55-44 loss to the Lady Railsplitters.

The Lady Chargers did the job on the defensive end, forcing 24 turnovers. However, the Lady Railsplitters made good on their shots when the Lady Chargers didn't take it away. LMU hit 51% from the field (23-45). Meanwhile, the Lady Chargers hit only 38.8% of their shots. LMU also controlled the glass, outrebounding the Lady Chargers 37-17. The Lady Railsplitters actually outrebounded UAH 20-4 in the first half.

LMU led 33-24 at halftime and 36-24 in the opening minute of the second half. The lead ballooned to 14 when Karra Jackson's freethrow gave LMU a 43-29 lead with 13:48 remaining.

The Lady Chargers tried to make a run, but could only get as close as seven points the rest of the game.

Kim Young led the Lady Chargers with 15 points, though she struggled from the field hitting only 7-of-17 shots and 1-of-8 from 3-point range. LaKendra Hogg added 14 for UAH, who fell to 11-8 overall and 6-4 in the GSC East.
