Lady Chargers take 2-of-3 at Harding Invitational

Antoine Bell, UAH Sports Information

The Lady Chargers are 5-2 after winning two of three matches at the Harding University Invitational. With Harding being the favorite to win the GSC West, it could be the first of two trips to Searcy, AR this season for UAH. The winner of the west division hosts the Gulf South Conference tournament this year.

The Lady Chargers began the tournament by breezing past Southwest Baptist 30-20, 30-22, 30-11 on Friday night. Both Emily Miller and Melissa Feldmann finished with 10 kills and 10 digs each to lead UAH. Samantha Polkowski dished out 23 assists, while freshman setter Natalie Katsikas added 11.

Saturday didn't start out well for the Lady Chargers. Host Harding University wasn't very hospitable in their sweep of UAH. The Bisons held Miller, the UAH leading scorer, to only seven kills in a 30-17, 30-22, 30-26 thumping. Bethany Holder was the only UAH player with double-digit kills, tallying 14.

Perhaps still reeling from the loss to the Bisons, UAH fell into a hole against UCA, losing the first game 30-25. However, the Lady Chargers swept the last three games 30-25, 30-24 and 30-22 to beat the Bears for the second time in a week.

Feldmann led the Lady Chargers with 16 kills and 11 digs. Kristian Kleminsky added 15 kills, while Miller knocked down 13 kills and had 15 digs.

The traveling blue road show continues next weekend at the Central Missouri State Jennies Classic in Warrensburg, MO. The Lady Chargers take on Truman State and Washburn on Friday and CMSU and Pittsburg State on Saturday.
