Sophomore outside hitter Emily Miller dropped 19 kills and picked up 16 digs as the Lady Chargers swept Lincoln Memorial 3-0. The win, the third straight for the Lady Chargers, put UAH back above .500 at 9-8. More importantly, the Lady Chargers improved to 4-2 in the Gulf South Conference.
Junior middle hitter Melissa Feldmann added 12 kills and 12 digs for UAH. Meanwhile, freshman setter Natalie Katsikas continued to be solid in the place of starter Samantha Polkowski, who is still out of the lineup with an injury. She tallied 45 assists on the day.
The Lady Chargers had to work hard to shake the homestanding Lady Railsplitters. They trailed 23-20 late in the first game, before scoring six straight points to take control. UAH claimed game one 30-25.
That performance carried over to the second game as the Lady Chargers never trailed. The Lady Chargers jumped on LMU early, taking a 10-3 lead. Later in the game, UAH took a 20-10 lead after a ball handling error on the Lady Splitters. LMU pulled to within seven at 27-20 late, but the Lady Chargers scored to the final three points to win the game 30-20.
The final game looked like an instant replay of game two as UAH dominated. The Lady Chargers led 12-4 early, however, LMU closed the gap to 16-12 after Ajai Cribbs was stuffed at the net. But, the Lady Chargers settled down and regained control with a 4-0 run. Molly Healey's kill gave UAH a 20-12 lead. From there, the Lady Chargers cruised on to a 30-22 win.
The Lady Chargers had three players score in double figures in their 30-23, 30-25, 23-30, 30-16 win over West Georgia. Emily Miller led the way with 15 kills. Melissa Feldmann added 12 and Kristian Kleminsky 10 for UAH. Kleminsky also had 12 digs and Natalie Katsikas tallied 40 assists.
Next up: The Lady Chargers have a very busy week ahead, beginning Wednesday night on the road in Florence. The Lady Chargers face North Alabama at Flowers Hall. UNA has been a thorn in the Coach Laura Taube side over the years. The Lady Lions have won the last seven meetings, including last season's sweep. The last time UAH beat UNA was in 1999 when the Lady Chargers won a 3-2 thriller at Spragins Hall. After battling UNA, the Lady Chargers head to Arkadelphia, AR for the Lady Reddies Volleyball Classic at Henderson State. In that tournament, UAH will face Missouri Western State, Southern Arkansas, Arkansas Tech and Henderson State. The Lady Chargers are a combined 23-18 against the field. The includes a 6-0 mark against Southern Arkansas.
