It was a busy week for Coach Laura Taube's ladies. The Lady Chargers entered the week riding a three game winning streak. They were above .500 for the first time since early in the season. That streak ended abruptly with the annual visit to Florence and a sweep at the hands of nemesis North Alabama. The Lions whipped the Lady Chargers for the eighth straight time 30-15, 30-21, 30-21.
The Lady Chargers hoped to stop the bleeding quickly in the first day of the Lady Reddie Classic at Henderson State. However, Missouri Western State had other ideas. The Lady Chargers put up a battle early, but wore down en route to a 30-28, 30-22, 30-18 loss.
Then, on Friday night the Lady Chargers came roaring back. In a marathon match that enticed several other teams to stick around the Wells Center, the Lady Chargers beat Southern Arkansas in a five-game, two hour classic. UAH won the match 30-24, 22-30, 23-30, 30-22, 21-19, keeping the all-time record against SAU perfect at 7-0.
The momentum from the win over the Lady Riders carried on into the third match of the Classic against Arkansas Tech. The Lady Chargers got the sweep 30-27, 30-28, 30-16.
The Lady Chargers were confident going into the final match of the Classic against Henderson State. After all, Lady Reddies had only won four matches all year. But, HSU proved to be tougher than their 4-19 record. The Lady Chargers fell 30-24, 27-30, 30-16, 30-17.
Emily Miller had an excellent week, piling up 68 kills, 69 digs and six blocks. That included a 25 kill, 23 dig performance against Southern Arkansas. She hit .329 for the week. Junior hitter Kristian Kleminsky was also solid, finishing with 53 kills. All but nine of the kills came in the final three matches of the Henderson State Classic. Freshman setter Natalie Katsikas tallied 154 assists, including 61 against SAU.
