Class still in session at school of hard knocks for Lady Chargers

Coach Laura Taube's played tough against some quality competition at the North Dakota State Invitational. Although, the young Lady Chargers fought valiantly, the results were a mirror image of the weekend before. The Lady Chargers dropped three of four matches. However, coach Taube remains optimistic. "We are playing well right now, against some tough teams," she said. "We just need to finish when we have the opportunity and cut down on unforced errors."

(9/7/02) - The Lady Chargers team ended a four-game losing streak with a hard-fought 3-2 (32-30, 26-30, 30-22, 26-30, 15-12) win over Minnesota State-Moorhead. However, the Lady Chargers ran into a buzzsaw in the final match of the day, host and 14th ranked North Dakota State. The match lasted a little over an hour and the Bison rolled 30-14, 30-23, 30-12.

Against MSU-Moorhead, the Lady Chargers overcame 17 service errors with tough defense and timely offense. UAH finished the match with 76 digs and 14 team blocks. The Lady Chargers also outhit MSU-Moorhead 68-62. Four Lady Chargers had double-digit kills, paced by sophomore hitter Kristian Kleminsky who had 19 kills. Freshman Emily Miller followed with 18 kills and 15 digs, while Molly Healey added 13 kills and Kristen Henley 11.

North Dakota State dominated the final match, holding the Lady Chargers (2-6) to only 23 kills. UAH hit .084 for the match, while the Bisons had an efficient killing percentage of .419. Kleminsky and Miller each had seven kills to lead UAH.

Quincy def UAH 3-1
Michigan Tech def UAH 3-1

(9/6/02) - The Lady Chargers continued their early struggles with a pair of losses in the North Dakota State Volleyball Classic. The Lady Chargers lost to Quincy University 3-1 (35-33, 30-28, 24-30, 30-28), then fell against Michigan Tech 3-1 (26-30, 30-20, 30-24, 31-29).

Against Quincy, the Lady Chargers were outhit 72 kills to 44. Service errors by UAH also led to 13 Quincy points. Michigan Tech also outhit the Lady Chargers 62-57. However, UAH had several chances to win the match, but couldn't put MTU away.

Emily Miller led the Lady Chargers with 33 kills on the day. Kristian Kleminsky added added 26. Heather Grumke finished the day with 61 assists for UAH.
