
Lady Chargers keep chugging along

When the Lady Chargers were sitting at 4-8 after back-to-back spankings at the hands of Central Missouri State and Henderson State, it looked like a long season for Coach Laura Taube's young volleyball team. However, since that time, the Lady Chargers have grown up quickly and seem to have the hang of things. The Lady Chargers have won four straight and built a 6-0 record in the Gulf South Conference East Division. The Lady Chargers have also evened their overall record at 8-8.
UAH def. West Florida 3-1
The Lady Chargers ran their GSC East record to 6-0 and improved to 8-8 overall with a 3-1 win over much improved West Florida. The Lady Chargers won the first two games 30-27 and 30-27, but suffered a bit of a letdown in the third game, losing 30-18. However, Coach Laura Taube's troops regrouped to take the fourth game and the match 30-24.
Emily Miller paced the UAH attack with 19 kills, hitting .349 for the match. She also had 15 digs. Kristian Kleminsky added 18 kills. Heather Grumke finished the match with 50 assists and 17 digs. Cathryn Sterling steadied the defense with 25 digs.
UAH def. Valdosta State 3-0
The Lady Chargers continued their early hot streak in the Gulf South Conference, improving to 5-0 in the GSC East with a 30-21, 34-32, 30-28 sweep of Valdosta State on the road in southeast Georgia. The Ladt Chargers have won three in a row.
Once again, Emily Miller and Kristian Kleminsky led the Lady Chargers. Miller had 15 kills, while Kleminsky tallied 11. She also had 11 digs. Heather Grumke passed out 39 assists in the match.
The sweep included another UAH comeback. The Lady Chargers trailed 26-19 in the second game before coming back to win.
UAH def. Montevallo 3-2
The Lady Chargers battled back from a 2-1 hole to beat Montevallo 3-2 at Spragins Hall. The Lady Chargers won the first game 30-26, but lost the next two 30-27 and 30-24. After winning the fourth game 30-28, the Lady Chargers jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the deciding game and went on to put the match away with a 15-5 win.
Freshman hitter Emily Miller had 28 kills, 24 digs and four blocks to lead UAH. Kristian Kleminsky added 14 kills and Molly Healey finished with 12. Freshman setter Heather Grumke tallied 51 assists in the match.
