Lady Chargers suffer through winless week

Antoine Bell, UAH Sports Information

What a difference a week makes. Just a week ago, the UAH volleyball team was on a four-game winning streak and at .500 for the first time this season. However, this week was not kind to the Lady Chargers. On Saturday, the Lady Chargers were swept for the third straight match, dropping their record to 8-11.

Missouri Southern State def. UAH 3-0

The Lady Chargers ended a tough week with a 30-23, 30-18 and 30-26 loss to Missouri Southern State. Service errors continue to plague the young Lady Chargers. They committed 10 errors against only three service aces in the match. UAH was also outhit by MSSC 53-35. Emily Miller led the Lady Chargers with 10 kills. Daniella Bragg had 18 assists and Cathryn Sterling tallied 16 digs.

Pittsburg State def. UAH 3-0

The Lady Chargers were held to only 36 kills in a 30-24, 30-21, 30-27 loss to Pittsburg State in the Missouri Southern State Tournament in Joplin, Mo. The loss was the second straight for the Lady Chargers who fell to 8-10.

UAH Leading scorer Emily Miller was held to only one kill for the match. Molly Healey led the Lady Chargers with nine kills. Miller did have 14 digs to lead the UAH defense, while Samantha Polkowski finished with 33 assists.

West Alabama def. UAH 3-0

There would be no comeback this time. The Lady Charger volleyball team lost their first conference match of the season, falling to West Alabama 3-0 at Spragins Hall. With the loss, the Lady Chargers dropped to 8-9 and 6-1 in the GSC East. The visiting Lady Tigers improved to 8-7 and 3-4.

After playing comeback kids the last two weeks, UAH was the victim this time. It looked like the Lady Chargers would pull off another come-from-behind gem for awhile. Following a 30-26 loss in the first game, the Lady Chargers came out firing in game two. UAH led 21-13 before West Alabama made their run. The Lady Tigers finished the game with a 17-6 run, pulling out a 30-27 win. The Lady Chargers also held a small lead midway through the final game, but couldn't complete the job. West Alabama clinched the match 30-28.

The Lady Chargers struggled on offense, hitting only .153 for the match. UAH also committed 11 serving errors against only four aces. West Alabama didn't do much better, hitting .171, with seven serving errors.

Emily Miller was the only Lady Charger in double-figures with a match-high 17 kills. Erika Britton paced West Alabama with 14 kills and Susan Adcock added 10.
