Lady Chargers continues roll down the stretch

The Lady Chargers won all three of its matches on consecutive days this week. The wins locked up the No. 3 slot in the East for the Lady Chargers in the upcoming Gulf South Conference tournament.

The week began on the road and a tough rematch against Montevallo. Earlier this season, the Lady Falcons handed UAH its first Gulf South Conference loss of the season. What made it more stunning, it happened at Spragins Hall. On Tuesday, the Lady Chargers returned the favor by knocking off the Lady Falcons 31-33, 30-18, 27-30, 30-18 and 19-17. Montevallo came into the match with a perfect 11-0 record in the GSC.

The 23rd ranked Lady Chargers improved to 24-7 and 11-3 in the GSC, while Montevallo, ranked 25th in the latest AVCA/NCAA D-II poll, fell to 28-7 and 13-1.

Senior middle blocker Ellen LaFiore led UAH with 23 kills and 10 digs. Lindsey Dunham tallied 20 kills, while Melissa Feldmann added 13 and Erin Denny 12. Senior setter Jane Baumgartner finished the evening with 67 assists.

On Wednesday, Halloween Night the Lady Chargers played the ghouls at Spragins Hall, stamping “Rest in Peace” on West Alabama. The Lady Chargers blanked the visiting Lady Tigers 3-0 (boxscore), winning their 11th match in 12 outings.

LaFiore led the Lady Chargers with 14 kills, while Baumgartner passed out 43 assists. Feldmann and Cathryn Sterling paced the defense with 12 digs each.

The Lady Chargers finished the week off with a trip to Carrollton, GA and a date with West Georgia. It was senior night for the Lady Braves and head coach Robbie Cameron's final home game at West Georgia.

The Lady Chargers ruined the night's festivities with a 3-1 win (boxscore).

The Lady Braves put up a strong fight in their final home game. The Lady Chargers won the first game 30-21, but West Georgia surprised UAH 30-25 in the second game. However, the Lady Chargers rebounded in the last two games, 30-21 and 30-21.

LaFiore again paced the Lady Chargers with 23 kills and Dunham added 17. Baumgartner had 65 assists and Sterling led the defense with 14 digs.
