The Lady Chargers had short week with only two matches on the schedule. The week began with the Lady Chargers taking their 9-match winning streak to Florence for a rematch against UNA.
In the first meeting, it was all UNA at Spragins Hall. This time around, the venue was different and so was the day, but the result was just as nasty. The Lions roared again with a clean sweep 30-21, 30-14, 30-19.
The Lady Chargers had a horrible night offensively, hitting only .159 for the match and earning just 35 kills. In the second game, the Lady Chargers had only eight kills and hit minus .059.
Ellen LaFiore and Lindsay Dunham were the only UAH players with double-digit kills, finishing the match with 10 each.
Lady Chargers edge Lincoln Memorial (Boxscore)
On Sunday, the Lady Chargers finally got a chance to play a home match for the first time in nearly a month. The Lady Chargers found themselves in a tussle with a determined bunch of Railsplitters from Lincoln Memorial. When the dust settled, UAH had survived a 5-game war with LMU to register their 23rd win of the season.
The match was tight from the onset. In the first game, the two teams traded blows throughout, with the longest lead only getting up to five points. An attack error late in the game by Kristian Kleminsky gave the Splitters a 26-21 lead. However, the Lady Chargers came rolling back to tie the game with five straight points.
UAH actually pulled ahead 30-29 off of a kill by Whitney Mock. However, with the score tied at 33-all, Lisa Mulder put the Splitters in front with a smash. Then, an attack error by Lindsay Dunham ended the game with a 35-33 LMU win.
The loss seemed to spark the Lady Chargers. In the next two games, it was all home team. The Lady Chargers broke open a tight game two to pull away 30-16. In the third game, UAH rolled out to a big lead lead early, then fought off a furious charge late to win the game 30-23. In that game, the Lady Chargers led by as much as 13 points (17-4) before LMU began their rally.
Just when the Lady Chargers looked like they were about to finish the Splitters, the visitors came fighting back. This time, it was LMU that jumped out to the big lead. The Splitters lead 21-11 before UAH woke up. The Lady Chargers actually climbed all the way back and tied the game at 28-all. But, rally stalled and the Railsplitters scored the last two points to win 30-28 to force a fifth game.
In the deciding game, the two teams were neck and neck up until the score was tied 9-9. Then, Erin Denny gave the Lady Chargers the lead to stay with a kill. From there, UAH rolled on to finish the game and the match 15-10.
Ellen LaFiore, who played the match suffering from a bout with a flu bug, led the Charger hit parade with 24 kills. Dunham also was swinging away, tallying 22 kills. Denny added 16 and Melissa Feldmann chipped in 13 kills. Setter Jane Baumgartner rolled up 75 assists in the match.
