Lady Chargers win GSC opener...break losing streak

The Lady Chargers had to come from behind to win their Gulf South Conference opener at home against Lincoln Memorial. In the process, UAH stopped a 3-game losing skid with a 3-1 victory.

Things didn't look too good for the home team early as LMU jumped out to an 11-0 lead and went on to win game one 15-2.

In the second game, the Lady Chargers ran out to the early advantage, taking an 8-2 lead. However, the Lady Railsplitters came back to take the lead at 13-12. With a 2-0 deficit staring them in the face, the Lady Chargers got off the mat and scored the next three points to win the game 15-13.

Game three looked like an instant replay as the Chargers rolled out to a 8-2 lead, only to have that trimmed to 13-12 late in the game. Once again, UAH rallied to win the game 15-12.

In the final game, the Lady Chargers held a slight lead early, but LMU fought back with a fury. With the Lady Chargers poised to win the match, the Lady Railsplitters stormed back to take the lead at 15-14. UAH tied the match at 15 and it stayed that way for several rallies. Finally, UAH put the game away with a pair of hard-earned points.

Ellen LaFiore led the UAH (5-5, 1-0 in GSC) attack with 22 kills and 24 digs. Melissa Feldman tallied 16 kills and 12 digs, while Cathryn Sterling finished with 46 assists and 18 digs. Sara Winn and Whitney Mock had 13 digs each.
